Trans Canadian Trains
One of the greatest rail adventures in Canada is the
trans-Canada train journey between Toronto and Vancouver. This
four-night passage takes place aboard VIA Rail's Canadian, the premier trans Canada
rail line, which showcases the country's changing landscapes as it
makes its easterly journey. This sleeper train has several levels
of service, including Sleeper Plus Class, with its berth and
private cabin options. Travelers may relax in their seats or enjoy
the breathtaking scenery from the glass-domed sightseeing lounge.
As the journey presses on, views of tranquil lakes, dense forests,
expanses of grasslands, verdant river valleys and the rugged peaks
of the majestic Canadian Rockies
envelop the scenery. Other impressive sights along the way include
the grand Battle River Valley; Pyramid Falls, which is so close to
the train tracks it feels as though you can reach out and touch it;
and Mt. Robson, the tallest peak of the Canadian Rockies.
Trans Canadian train vacation packages include several stops
along the route, giving passengers a chance to stretch their legs
and to get a glimpse at the fascinating towns and cities that dot
Canada's inland. Select packages extend these stops into overnight
stays in places like the beautiful Canadian Rockies. Departing
Vancouver, the Canadian first stops in Jasper National Park, a
destination shrouded in mountainous glory. The route continues to
Alberta's capital city of Edmonton and Saskatoon before arriving in
Winnipeg, Manitoba's capital. The train pauses briefly two more
times before arriving in Toronto, the largest city in Canada, and a
hotspot for culture and commerce. VIA Rail's Canadian also runs
from Toronto to Vancouver for those that prefer a route in the
opposite direction. With overnight stays in these cosmopolitan
cities and inspiring scenery in between, a trans-Canada train
vacation is not easily forgotten.
