My wife and I took the train from our home in NYC to Lake Placid, NY last year. What a beautiful ride. The scenery was so enjoyable. I've always loved trains. One of my favorite trips is from NYC to DC. Passing by crumbling abandoned factories and warehouses its sort of a glimpse of an era gone by. The jobs and people have gone and all that is left is the ruins of past dreams.

The AdirondackNew York City to Montreal, Canada.

When people think about great scenic journeys in the United States, they think head west. However, the Adirondack in the NorthEast has been said to rival some of the great routes of the West.

This 381 mile, 9 hour and 30 minute run takes you from New York City to Montreal. The Adirondack travels during the day so you can enjoy the Hudson River, the cliffs of New Jersey's Palisades, Tapan Zee Birdge, Bear Mountain Bridge in the Highlands of the Hudson. Continue on and you see the fortresses of West Point, lighthouses.

As you the train trip takes you farther North, you glide along Lake Champlain and your way to the U.S./Canadian border. Moving into Canada, you start to feel the French flare of Montreal.

I hear this is a great journey.

Has anyone taken this scenic trip?

Great blog! You should also be aware of train travel north of the American border, to picturesque, vibrant and very friendly Canada. There is much to see from the dazzling cosmopolitan centers (Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver) to the postcard ready historical towns Québec, Halifax, Kingston) and the breathtaking natural sights (Jasper National Park and the Majestic Rockies). And by train, you get to see it all from the best vintage point, in plush, comfortable surroundings and tended to by experts in service, both on board and at the stations. In addition, with the North America Rail Pass (offered by VIA and Amtrak), all of it, on both sides of the border, is your to discover, at a very affordable price.

Terry-

Thanks for your comments. Any more information you can provde people about the great train trips in Canada would be great.

From what I understand Via Rail has some great service. For some Canada Train Travel people should try Via Rail Canada's The Canadian from Toronto to Vancouver.

A great train trip would be Via Rail to Vancouver, BC, Amtrak to Seattle and then back east on Amtrak's Empire Builder.

Train tripper -
I would be more than happy to keep posting to this blog about great train ideas with VIA Rail, especially since I am called upon on a regular basis to visit their site for work. In addition, I encourage anyone who may be interested in obtaining more information on VIA Rail to subscribe to their e-Letters. They have a few different issues, depending on whether you are a business traveler, a student, a senior, etc. You can subscribe to as many as you want, and I have found that they are a great way to find out about special deals offered by VIA.
