Amtrak Long Distance Routes: An Endangered Species

Amtrak’s long distance routes are an endangered species and this may be the last chance to travel. The Bush Administration has zeroed-out the budget and the Senate is supporting this decision. The White House is seeking to force Amtrak into bankruptcy and restructuring. The ultimate result would the elimination of under utilized and unprofitable routes. This would likely be many, if not all, of the long distance routes, such as The Empire Builder, California Zephyr, The Adirondack, The Southwest Chief and others.

Contact Your Representative In Washington and Tell Them You Support Amtrak.

If you ever planned on travel by train across the United States, now may be your last chance.

If you are looking for the train station in downtown Seattle, here is the address:

Seattle, WA (SEA)

303 South Jackson Street
King St. Station
Seattle, WA 98104

This is an Amtrak train station. Additional Amtrak Thruway connecting service is available at the Victoria Ferry Service stop (SVF).

Good Luck.

We traveled across country about 5 years ago on the train. Amtrak vacations. We live in a beautiful country and this is the best way to see the out of the way places and beautiful scenery. It was a trip of a life time.

I grew up with train travel from the 1930's. My father worked (indirectly) for the Southern Pacific at Railway Express. For as long as I can remember train travel was exciting, comfortable and fun. Amtrak trains have come a long way back and still have some to go but what is offered on the Coastliner is the upmost. I will always travel by train--first!

I have traveled by Amtrak three (3) times and loved the service from the representatives who book the travel to the staff on board the trains. How do I let my representative know that to take away Amtrak would be to take away a part of America? Judy Joyner

We injoy traveling on Amtrak. It was a thrill going around the country. The food was delicious and you meet new people. If our country would cut givingm airlines funds to survey, money would be available for our passenger trains to run. Foreign country have better service than we do. Lets keep our passenger service running

It ia an outrage to even thik of getting rid of long distant train travel. My family travels by train when ever they can, they believe there is no other way to travel and see this beautiful country we live in and someone else does the driving. You can dine, have a clean bed, showers, and the best of all you get to meet wonderful people from all walks of life. Now somebody out there tell me that train travel should not be funded more by this country we're supposed to be so proud of, since Bush has been in office we have lost alot already. Now he wants our train traveling days to come to an end. It's a crying shame! Please write and give me your thoughts at Moabdawn2003@yahoo.com Thank you

I am trying to take an Amtrak from Charlotte North Carolina to Tallahassee, Florida. I know there is a station in Tallahassee but the Amtrak website will not recognize it as a station. Can you help me? If there is an option to travel to Marianna, Fl that would great too. Both would be much closer to my final destination than the options given on the site.
