After a two-night stay, board VIA Rail's Canadian for the overnight journey into the Canadian Rockies. You're surrounded by majestic mountain peaks when you arrive in Jasper National Park, your starting point for a scenic circle trip through the Canadian Rockies which takes you to the hamlet of Lake Louise and the resort town of Banff. Return to Jasper and board VIA Rail's Canadian for the overnight journey west to Canada's third largest city, Vancouver, where your rail vacation comes to an end with a city stay and at-leisure sightseeing.

Day 1 - Winnipeg
Welcome to Winnipeg! Depending on your arrival time, your room may not be available for check-in, so leave your bags and set out to explore Winnipeg. The city has excellent museums, very good restaurants and an active cultural community that supports ballet, theatre and musical events.
Day 2 - Winnipeg
Enjoy your day in Winnipeg today. Winnipeg is Manitoba's vibrant capital city, located at the centre of Canada and North America. With a population of more than 762,000 culturally diverse people, the city has a cosmopolitan, international flair and a warm, welcoming spirit. From world-class historic sites to exhibits to attractions to festivals, there are so many activities to enjoy year round in Winnipeg.
Day 3 - Winnipeg to Jasper
This afternoon, you start your train trip heading west. This afternoon cross the Manitoba-Saskatchewan border. The first important town you will come across is Melville, named after Charles Melville Hays, President of the Grand Trunk Pacific Railroad Company who died in the sinking of the Titanic in 1912. Spend the day chatting with your fellow travelers and enjoying exclusive access to first-class lounges, dining on superb meals, and delighting in impeccable service. Overnight train. ( L, D)
Day 4 - Arrive Jasper
Awake this morning in Alberta's capitol city of Edmonton, often regarded as the gateway to the north because of its historically prominent location in the fur trade, the Yukon gold rush, and the Alberta oil discoveries. Make the most of your last full day on the train, admiring the passing scenery, mountain towns, towering forests, and tranquil lakes from your private room or from one of the train's observation decks.
Your train is scheduled to pull into Jasper at 1:00 pm. Located in the heart of the Canadian Rockies, this town is known for its majestic mountain peaks and floating icefields. Upon arrival, transfer from the Jasper rail station to your hotel, where the remainder of your day is at leisure. Overnight Jasper. (B, L)
Day 5 - Jasper to Lake Louise
Enjoy a full-day scenic transfer en route to Lake Louise. Travel along the Icefield Parkway, a scenic two-lane road that parallels the Continental Divide. A highlight of the day is a stop at the Columbia Icefield, where you will board an Ice Explorer and journey onto the massive Athabasca Glacier. Upon arrival at the Chateau, take time to view the lake and explore the grounds before dinner. The original Chateau was built by the Canadian Pacific Railway over the course of several years as a means to entice wealthy travelers to vacation by rail in the West. Overnight Lake Louise.
Day 6 - Lake Louise to Banff
Travel east today to Banff, a resort town surrounded by the Sulphur and Cascade Mountains. The town, originally settled by the Canadian Pacific Railway in the 1880's, is a veritable playground, offering an assortment of activities including hiking and biking paths and pristine ski areas. One of Banff's most popular attractions is the Banff Upper Hot Springs located in Banff National Park. Overnight Banff.
Day 7 - Banff
Take the day to fully explore the exciting town of Banff. Take advantage of all of the outdoor activities available to you, enjoy a gondola ride to the top of Sulphur Mountains, or explore Banff National Park, Canada's oldest National Park. Be sure to carve out time to visit the grand Banff Springs Hotel, a former railway hotel constructed in the Scottish Baronial style in 1888. Overnight Banff.
Day 8 - Banff to Jasper
The morning is yours to enjoy Banff at your leisure. Later today, transfer from Banff to Jasper. Overnight Jasper.
Day 9 - VIA Rail Jasper to Vancouver
Today you continue your train trip through what is considered the jewel in the crown of this wonderful rail trip, the Canadian Rockies. As you continue west, the train crosses into British Columbia and the Rockies give way to fertile fields and eventually to the Pacific Ocean, where Vancouver is perched. (D,B)
Day 10 - Arrive Vancouver
Arrive in Vancouver, Canada's third largest city, a little after 9:30 am. Transfer by taxi (included) to your centrally-located hotel. Spend the day exploring this coastal city through a Hop On/Hop Off bus tour-the perfect way to see the city's most important sights. Must-see attractions include Stanley Park, the Vancouver Aquarium, English Bay Beach, Granville Island, Chinatown, the UBC Museum of Anthropology, and the Robson Street shopping district. Stroll the cobbled streets of Gastown, view some of the Olympic sites, and dine in one of the city's amazing restaurants this evening. Overnight Vancouver. (B)
Day 11 - Vancouver
Your Canada rail vacation comes to an end this morning. You may wish to extend your stay in Vancouver to fully explore the city and all of its incredible sights. Or, return to the airport on your own with memories to last a lifetime.
