This tour kicks off in the city of love itself, Paris. After a brief stay in one of the world's most popular destinations, we board our Scenic "Space-Ship" for a truly enchanting cruise along the Rhône River. Along the southbound route, vineyards dot the hillside and quaint, centuries-old villages provide scenery one could only expect from France. We sail through the Burgundy and Beaujolais wine regions, as well as through ancient Renaissance and Roman towns, before arriving at the final port of call, Tarascon.

Day 1 - Travel to Paris
The first day is spent en route to Paris aboard an international airline. Flights not included
Day 2 - Arrive Paris
Once you touch down in Paris, the day is yours. Make your way over to one of the city-central hotels - such as the Marriott Opera Ambassador - to check in, and then take some time to get acquainted with the city. Overnight Paris.
Day 3 - Paris to Chalon-sur-Saône
Our tour kicks off this morning. After a delicious breakfast in Paris, the group makes its way to the port at Chalon-sur-Saône where our ship awaits. Enjoy a warm welcome by the captain and staff, check out your onboard accommodations and get familiar with the layout of the ship as we set sail. Overnight ship. (B, D)
Day 4 - Mâcon to Lyon
The ship docks in Mâcon this morning, at which time you have two Freechoice options:
Freechoice 1) Journey from the town of Mâcon to the "Golden Stone" region of Beaujolais, which is highlighted by charming villages and lush vineyard surroundings. Sample some of the region's most notable wines, such as the renowned Beaujolais Nouveau, before returning.
Freechoice 2) Make your way over to the Cluny in the Burgundy region of France - a countryside town built around Benedictine Abbey. Meander through the streets to see the Romanesque churches, old buildings and gently rolling hills.
This afternoon is at your leisure in Mâcon. Sample some of France's finest wine, cuisine and cheese offerings, or see the sites before returning to the ship for the cruise to Lyon. Overnight ship. (B, L, D)
Day 5 - Lyon
We wake this morning in the gastronomic heart of France, Lyon. A day of wonderful cuisine and fantastic regional wines awaits, and you have an opportunity to get an insider's look at this famous city using one of three Freechoice options:
Freechoice 1) Discover the hidden past of Lyons with a tour of the town's secret traboules and pathways, some of which date back to 300 A.D. Continue onto the Notre-Dame de Fourvière for vast history and beautiful views over the land.
Freechoice 2) Venture over to the town of Pérouges for an unforgettable tour. Cobblestone streets wind through this Medieval town, which is perched high upon a hilltop just outside of Lyon.
Freeview 3) Hop on a bicycle, and join a cycle tour of Lyons that ends at some of its most modern attractions, the zoo and the botanical gardens. Overnight ship. (B, L, D)
Day 6 - Vienne to Tournon
The day begins with a excursion through the old Roman town of Vienne. The city is highlighted by memories of yesteryear, with its temples, churches, archeological sites and museums. Views over the river by the same name abound. Reboard the ship this afternoon, and enjoy the vast onboard amenities and scenic beauty of the Rhône on the cruise to Tournon. Upon docking, we head to the Castle of Tournon - known for its unbeatable vantage point over the region - for an afternoon cocktail. Later, a private performance from local acoustic guitarists truly makes the evening one to remember. Overnight ship. (B, L, D)
Day 7 - Viviers to Avignon
We arrive in the walled commune of Viviers first thing this morning. Here, buildings date back as far as the 12th century, and there are a fantastic mixture of rustic and restored structures. Meander along the narrow, winding streets to Old Town, the center of the city. Here, the town's hallmark, Cathedral of Saint-Vincent, is sure to inspire. Tour the inside of the church, or walk around the grounds for panoramic views of the town. The afternoon is spent back aboard your Scenic "Space-Ship." Soak up the French atmosphere on the Sun Deck, or enjoy the offerings inside the ship. Later in the evening, French Chanson vocalists provide excellent live entertainment. Overnight ship. (B, L, D)
Day 8 - Avignon
The town of Avignon awaits today. Here, choose one of three Freechoice Excursions to enrich your visit:
Freechoice 1) Take an in-depth look at the 14th century Palace of the Popes. This building is the true architectural jewel of Avignon and features stunning tile work, impressive wood and stone carvings and an impressive footprint.
Freechoice 2) Journey over to Uzès, a beautifully preserved and restored town in the South of France. The tour includes a visit to Pont du Gard, which is an impressive aqueduct bridge that remains from the Roman era.
Freechoice 3) Sample your way through one of Avignon's local markets with our "Shop With a Chef" excursion. Learn about the local fare, and taste those ingredients and dishes that interest you.
Enjoy an afternoon of leisure in Avignon. Tour one of the museums in town, or just wander through the streets to gaze up at the historic buildings of Old Town, the choice is yours. Further into the evening, after the doors close at the Palace of the Popes, we are treated to a private concert in the Grand Tinel Room. Listen to the classical offerings - Mozart, Strauss, Vivaldi and more - performed by some of the region's most skilled virtuoso performers. Overnight ship. (B, L, D)
Day 9 - Tarascon
Relax in your onboard accommodations, in one of the lounges or out on the Sun Deck as we sail along to our last port of call, Tarascon. Select one of the three Freechoice options upon docking:
Freechoice 1) Make your way over to one of the beautiful towns in France, the Provincial town of Les Baux. Here, small town squares meet buildings of years past, picturesque views and an abundance of farms. In fact, you have the opportunity to visit a local olive farm during your tour.
Freechoice 2) Tour the centuries-old city of Saint-Rémy to see what remains of its wall from the 1300s and the many surrounding buildings. A true highlight of the visit is a tour of Saint-Paul de Mausole Monastery, a place where beauty, art and history join together. See the views that inspired Van Gogh himself.
Freechoice 3) Get a look at ancient Roman entertainment in the Arles Arena in the town of Arles, France. Soaring archways grace both stories, and in the center is a vast sand arena. See other prominent sites of this once-thriving Roman town before returning. Overnight ship. (B, L, D)
Day 10 - Tarascon to Marseille Airport
Breakfast is served aboard your Scenic "Space-Ship" before you must disembark and end your tour. A representative is happy to transport you to Marseille Airport for your return flight home. Please schedule all flights to depart after 1 p.m. local time. This is the end of your memorable Rhône excursion; however, those that crave even more adventure have the option to continue the fun with extensions to Paris, Monte Carlo or Barcelona. (B)
