Milwaukee Road Steam Train 261

Built in 1944, the Milwaukee 261 was one of the last steam locomotives built for Milwaukee. Resorted in 1993, this special departure gives you a rare opportunity to experience steam locomotive passenger service in United States.

June 23, 2008 – Day 1 - Begin the Empire Builder Experience with an independent arrival into Milwaukee. Check-in to your downtown hotel and spend the day exploring Milwaukee. From the Milwaukee Art Museum to the Harley Davidson factory to the Milwaukee Zoo, Milwaukee is full of surprises.

June 24, 2008 – Day 2 - Arrive at Milwaukee’s Amtrak Depot for your early morning departure on the Steam Engine, Milwaukee Road 261 - destination Minneapolis, Minnesota. Enjoy Coach Class, First Class or Premium Class which includes gourmet meals, hors d’ oeuvres with complementary beer and wine in either the Milwaukee Road Sky Dome or Super Dome 53. The Milwaukee Road makes regular Amtrak stops to Minneapolis, Minnesota, along the Empire Builder Route, arriving at 6:00pm in Minneapolis. Transfer provided to Minneapolis St. Paul Amtrak Station.

Board Amtrak’s Empire Builder at 10:40pm in a sleeping accommodation to continue your journey to Seattle.

June 25, 2008 - Day 3 - As you awake this morning, the train makes its way through the grasslands of the "Northern Prairie State" of North Dakota. Wildlife is in abundance in this area, so be sure to have your camera ready! It is not uncommon to spot bison, elk, prairie dogs, foxes, muskrats, white-tailed deer and bald eagles in this region. Delicious meals are available in the Dining Car, or lighter fare is available in the Sightseer Lounge car. As the train continues on through the day, the landscape gives way to rolling hills, canyons, gorges, and rugged mountain terrain. Relax in the Sightseer Lounge this evening. The floor to ceiling glass windows will ensure that you won't miss any of the spectacular scenery as the train rolls through Glacier National Park.

June 26, 2008 – Day 4 - The train is scheduled for a mid-morning arrival in Seattle, Washington. Transfer independently from the rail station to your downtown hotel. Pike Place Market, the Space Needle, and Pioneer Square are steps from your doorway. Explore the thriving music and theatre scene, vibrant galleries, and one-of-a kind museums or relax with some of the best coffee in the country at one of the hundreds of cafés' and coffee shops!

June 27, 2008 – Day 5 - Today ends your Empire Builder Experience. Independent transfer to the airport or rail station.
