Amtrak's 'Empire Builder' Train

Glacier Park Getaway is not being offered this year. Similar tours that are running are the Empire Builder with Glacier Park and Glacier National Park Escape.

This long weekend rail adventure takes you to one of the United States' greatest treasures, Glacier National Park.



  • Round-trip transportation via Amtrak rail and deluxe motor coach.
  • Two nights hotel accommodations.
  • Two nights on Amtrak trains with comfortable, reclining coach seats with leg rests.

Day 1: En Route
The Glacier National Park tour members will meet the Tour Director in Chicago’s Union Station. Sleeping accommodation persons will have access to the comfortable, first-class Metropolitan Lounge. Early this afternoon you will board Amtrak’s Empire Builder for the 1620-mile journey across five states to Whitefish, Montana. Relax in your comfortable reclining coach seat with leg rest. A limited number of private Roomette bedroom sleeping accommodations are available for an additional $395 per person (double occupancy). Upgraded Bedrooms are available at an additional $1040 per person*. Bottled water and coffee are available for Roomette bedroom and upgraded Bedroom occupants in their car.

Go to the glass-walled Sightseer Lounge car for spectacular viewing. All tastefully prepared full-course dining car meals are included. You’ll arrive in Minneapolis/St. Paul around 10:31 p.m. (D)

Day 2: En Route/Whitefish
During the day you will roll across the remote flatlands of North Dakota and eastern Montana. First class sleeping car passengers will enjoy a wine and cheese party in the dining car this afternoon. This evening we’ll arrive in Whitefish, Montana. The two nights at Glacier National Park will be spent at the Best Western Rocky Mountain Lodge in Whitefish. (B, L, D)

Day 3: Glacier National Park
A Continental breakfast is included this morning. You’ll depart this morning on an all-day tour of one of America’s most beautiful attractions. Your group will travel over the spectacular Going-to-the-Sun Highway. Acclaimed as one of the outstanding scenic roadways of the world, the 50-mile-long drive affords magnificent views of the mountain scenery. Dense forests, picturesque lakes, brilliant flowers and abundant wildlife enhance the awesome views. You’ll stop for a leisurely “on-your-own” lunch at Lake Mc- Donald Lodge and return to your hotel in Whitefish by late afternoon. (CB)

Day 4: En Route
You’ll transfer to the Whitefish Amtrak Station in time for the 7:46 a.m. departure of the Empire Builder for Chicago. Enjoy a delicious dining car breakfast and then head for the Sightseer Lounge car. About 8:00 a.m., you will begin to enjoy another perspective of Glacier National Park. The rest of the day we’ll cross the remote flatlands of eastern Montana and western North Dakota. (B, L & D)

Day 5: En Route
Breakfast and lunch on the train are included. We depart from Minneapolis-St. Paul at 7:50 a.m. and head south along the west bank of the Mississippi River. The train winds between the river bank and high bluffs. The Empire Builder is scheduled to arrive in Chicago’s Union Station late this afternoon.
