Day 1 - Amtrakís Southwest Chief Eastward
Board Amtrakís Southwest Chief at Los Angelesí Union Station and prepare for your 6:15 pm departure for Williams Junction, Arizona and the Grand Canyon. Spend this evening relaxing aboard the train and getting acquainted with its many features including the glass-walled Sightseer Lounge. Overnight train. (D Sleeping Car passengers only)
Day 2 - Early Arrival in Williams Junction, Arizona
The Southwest Chief arrives in Williams Junction early this morning. Transfer to the Grand Canyon Railway Hotel, where a room will be waiting for you. There will be time to nap for a bit or freshen up prior to breakfast this morning at the Grand Depot Café followed by the morning departure of the historic Grand Canyon Railway for your journey to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. Upon arrival, embark on a Freedom Tour of the South Rim, which will offer stunning views of the Canyon and provide you with an overview of the area. Overnight Grand Canyon. (B)
Day 3 - Grand Canyon at Your Leisure
Today is yours to explore the Grand Canyon on your own. Photo buffs will want to get to the park before sunrise to capture the amazing moments when the sun peaks over the canyon. This afternoon, board the Grand Canyon Railway for the return trip to Williams. Enjoy the conductorís stories, the strolling musiciansóand a few surprises along the way. Dinner tonight is at the Grand Depot Café. Overnight Williams. (D)
Day 4 - Southwest Chief to Chicago
Transfer early this morning to Williams Junction, where you will meet the eastbound Southwest Chief for the journey to Chicago. Nap in your onboard accommodations, share travel stories with your fellow travelers and enjoy the incredible scenery as desert turns to the rolling fields of the Plains states. Overnight train. Day 5 - Arrival in Chicago
When you awake this morning you will be traveling through the Midwest. Enjoy a relaxing day aboard the train and prepare for your mid-afternoon arrival in Chicago, the Windy City. Check into your centrally-located hotel and take time to explore the city. You may wish to go to the top of Willis Tower for incredible panoramic views of the city and its suburbs or perhaps shop along the Magnificent Mile. Tonight youíll want to indulge in some Chicago deep dish pizza or dine at one of the cityís famous steakhouses. Overnight Chicago. (B, L Sleeping Car Passengers Only)
Day 6 - Chicago
Your southwestern rail vacation comes to an end this morning. You may wish to extend your stay in Chicago to see more of this dynamic city or head to the rail station or airport for your return trip home.
Hotels include the Grand Canyon Railway Hotel, Maswik Lodge, and Millennium Biltmore Hotel. Amtrak accommodations are in Coach class and include a reclining seat with leg rest and access to the Sightseer Lounge car.
Upgrades to Roomette and Bedroom sleeping accommodations are available for an additional fee and include all meals aboard the train.
Hotel accommodations are based on availability; substitutes will be similar in quality and amenities.
