Day 1
Guests not living in the Northeast arrive in Philadelphia today for an overnight stay at the superb Sheraton University Hotel with the evening at leisure in this historic city. We have an informal cocktail reception tonight, a nice way to meet your fellow travelers. Overnight at the Sheraton. R
Day 2
All Aboard! You depart Philadelphia this morning aboard the Greenbrier Limited, a day trip of epic beauty. Guests not joining us in Philadelphia the day before may board the ‘Greenbrier Express’ today at New York City, Newark, Princeton, Baltimore or Washington DC. All meals, wines & spirits are included while aboard and a special treat unfolds before our arrival at the Greenbrier, afternoon tea with cream cakes, pastries and piping hot Earl Grey. Later tonight, your first taste of the Greenbrier's justly famed cuisine, at dinner in the grand Main Dining Room. B L AT D
Day 3
All morning to sleep in or to enjoy the countless amenities of this wonderful resort. Golf, tennis, swimming, riding, biking, the spa or strolling the landscaped grounds are just some of the options today. This afternoon, you have included a historic tour of the hotel including the Cold War Era 'bunker'. A special treat today is afternoon tea, followed by dinner and perhaps, a movie in the vintage cinema. B AT D
Day 4
A mid-morning departure for the scenic drive to Pittsburgh, a wonderfully revitalized city with its setting on three rivers where deluxe rooms at the William Penn Hotel await. You have this evening at leisure to enjoy one of the many fine restaurants around the hotel or perhaps to enjoy the famed Duquesne Incline with the amazing view of the city from the top of Mount Washington. Day 5
You have a complete tour of this architecturally splendid city this morning, taking in all of its neighborhoods as well as Carnegie University, suburban Oakland and followed by lunch in the fashionable Shadyside neighborhood with its quaint shops, boutiques and restored Victorian homes. Take in the afternoon at leisure and visit some of the extraordinary museums Pittsburgh is famed for, most notably the Carnegie Museum of Art just a three minute walk from your hotel. L
Day 6
The Big Day. You depart the hotel after breakfast (the main dining room features some of the best French Toast in the country!) on a special day that includes the incomparably pretty Laurel Highlands, site of the Battle of Jumonville and the start of the French and Indian War, visiting Ohiopyle and its rushing waterfalls before pausing for lunch at the Summit Inn Hotel with its marvelous view. After lunch, you continue to nearby Falling Waters, possibly the most famous work by Frank Lloyd Wright before returning to Pittsburgh where visual splendor of a different sort awaits, your grand farewell dinner at the Grand Concourse Restaurant. Day 7
Guests from the Northeast depart this morning aboard the Pennsylvanian train for the scenic day trip through the Allegheny’s and Pennsylvania Dutch country to Philadelphia, New York City and other eastern points. Guests bound for the Midwest have a bit more time for sightseeing before an evening departure aboard the Capitol Limited.
