Day 1 - Arrive in Boston
Arrive in Boston, Massachusetts, with an included transfer to your hotel. Meet your Tour Manager in the hotel lobby at 6:00 pm for dining suggestions.
Day 2 - Boston City Tour and Harbor Lunch Cruise
This morning we take a panoramic city tour of Boston, the birthplace of American Freedom. See the Freedom Trail with the Old and New State Houses, Paul Revere House and the Boston Common. Then we take to the water for a cruise through Boston's Inner and Outer Harbors. Enjoy a sumptuous buffet onboard while your narrated cruise sights include the USS Constitution, Old North Church, Boston Light and the Boston Harbor Islands. Later, we travel up the Atlantic coast to Portland, Maine. (L)
Day 3 - Casco Bay Cruise / Portland Museum of Art
Maine's rocky shoreline and wooded islands come into view today as we board our boat for a scenic cruise of Casco Bay. Sail past lovely Victorian cottages nestled along the shores of Little and Great Diamond Islands. Watch for lobstermen and local fishing fleets as well as abundant sea birds, seals and other wildlife. This afternoon, we visit the Portland Museum of Art which contains more than 17,000 works of art and features works by American artist Winslow Homer as well as pieces by Picasso, Renoir, Monet and more. Tonight, dinner is at one of Portland's unique bayside restaurants. (B, D)
Day 4 - Maine's Northeast Coast and Camden Hills State Park
Today we enjoy some of Maine's most breathtaking seascapes and historic highlights as we make our way to Camden State Park. Here, we drive to the 800-foot summit of Mount Battie for a panoramic view of beautiful wooded hillsides and Maine's rugged coast. After lunch on own in Rockland we visit the Maine Lighthouse Museum with the nation's largest collection of Fresnel lighthouse lenses. In Boothbay we visit the Coastal Botanical Gardens with its 250 acres of plant life and garden landscape before coming to the Boothbay Railway Village. Here Maine's past comes alive in the period structures and fleet of Henschel steam locomotives which still operate today. Later, we stop for an included dinner before returning to the hotel. (B, D)
Day 5 - Conway Scenic Railroad
Leaving the coast today, we travel west into New Hampshire's White Mountains. In North Conway we board the Conway Scenic Railroad for the journey through the White Mountains and enjoy the scenery of the Mt. Washington Valley countryside. Relive a part of railroad history, when the first train traveled through this region over 130 years agio. Tonight we enjoy dinner in this quaint mountain town. (B, box lunch, D)
Day 6 - Kancamagus Scenic Byway / Quechee Gorge
This morning we travel the Kancamagus Scenic Byway as it follows a beautiful path through the White Mountains. It is one of the world's most spectacular fall foliage trips, where a stunning spectrum of color underscores the region's natural beauty year-round. The road meanders through vast forests, old logging roads, and Indian hunting paths. We cross into Vermont where quaint villahes with the steeples of white clapboard churches rise above the colorful trees. Later, we stop at Quechee Gorge to view the spectacular scenery of the area before arriving on Cape Cod. (B)
Day 7 - Harbor Cruise and Cape Cod Central Railroad
Take to the water this morning on a cruise of the harbor. Experience the pristine shoreline, sparkling emerald water and fresh salt air on the old-time Maine coastal steamer replica. Then, climb aboard the Cape Cod Central Railroad. Feel the rhythm of the train and spirit of the crew as you are whisked away on an exhilarating rail experience past beautiful cranberry bogs, natural woodlands, lush marshes and sand dunes. Tonight, gather for a farewell lobster dinner in Hyannis. (B, D)
Day 8 - Travel Home
After breakfast, you will have some free time to explore Hyannis. Your included group transfer to Boston's Logan Airport will be for flights out after 4:00 pm. (B)
