This epic 14-day rail journey aboard Rovos Rail travels through Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana and South Africa and is one of the most famous train journeys in the world. Starting in Tanzania, the train leaves the bustling station of Dar es Salaam and passes through the Selous Game Reserve, the largest on the continent and a vision of timeless Africa. Travel through the Rift Valley and witness spectacular scenery as the train negotiates the tunnels, switchbacks and viaducts of the escarpment. After passing the Tanzania/Zambia border – almost the midpoint between Africa’s two Great Rift Valley lakes – guests can enjoy a bush walk at Chisimba Falls before crossing the mighty Zambezi for an overnight stay at the colonial Victoria Falls Hotel. The train then travels through Botswana to the Madikwe Game Reserve for a two-night stay at a five-star lodge, then on to Pretoria, the capital city of South Africa. The journey will then take guests through the diamond-mining town of Kimberley and the historic little village of Matjiesfontein before this magnificent rail journey ends in Cape Town.

Day 1 - Depart Tazara Station
Depart Tazara Station in Dar es Salaam at 12:00 pm. The afternoon is yours to explore the train. Overnight train. (B,L,D)
Day 2 - Selous Game Reserve
Travel through the Selous Game Reserve, one of the world's largest reserves. Arrive at Makambako at 4:00 pm. Take the day to explore the many amazing aspects of this incredible train such as the fabulous dining car and the club car which has glass passage walls allowing the perfect way to take in the sights. Day 3 - Chisimba Falls
Arrive in Tunduma/Nakonde for Tanzanian/Zambian border formalities then precede to Kasama after lunch for a bush walk at Chisimba Falls. Chisimba Falls is believed to be a sacred place of power by the Bemba people. The nature spirit of Chisimba is said to live in the cave under the falls. Overnight train. (B,L,D)
Day 4 - Serenje
Pass through the Zambian district of Serenje. The day is at leisure on the train with optional lectures by the on-board historian. Overnight train. (B,L,D)
Day 5 - Lusaka
Pass through the Zambia capital, Lusaka. Lusaka is one of the fastest growing cities in South Africa, with new buildings developing everywhere. The day is at leisure on the train. Take some time to relax in the lounge car. With its deep cushioned couches and wingback chairs, it's the perfect place to relax with your fellow travelers. Overnight train. (B,L,D)
Day 6 - Victoria Falls
Arrive in Livingstone/Victoria Falls for Zambia/Zimbabwe border formalities at 12:00pm. Then transfer to the Victoria Falls Hotel. This evening enjoy a sunset cruise on the Zambezi River followed by dinner. Overnight Victoria Falls. (B,L,D)
Day 7 - Victoria Falls
Day at leisure for activities such as a tour of the Falls, a golf game, a helicopter ride, a walk with the lions or river rafting. Transfer to the rail station and depart at 6:00 pm for border formalities and your continued train journey. Overnight train. (B,L,D)
Day 8 - Plumtree
Bypass Bulawayo en route to the border at Plumtree. The day is spent at leisure on the train. Spend some time in the observation car, with its unique open air balconies, the car provides the perfect sightseeing opportunity to experience this great South African journey. Overnight train. (B,L,D)
Day 9 - Madikwe Game Reserve
Arrive in Gaborone at 10:00 am and transfer, with border formalities en route, to the five-star Tau Lodge in the Madikwe Game Reserve for a full-board two-night stay. The Madikwe Reserve is home to what is known to the “Big Five,” lions, leopards, rhinos, elephants and cape buffalo. This afternoon enjoy your first game drive. Overnight Madikwe Game Reserve. Day 10 - Madikwe
Begin the day with an early morning game drive and then proceed on another in the afternoon, along with other guest activities. Overnight Madikwe Game Reserve. (B,L,D)
Day 11 - Magaliesberg
Embark on an early morning game drive followed by breakfast. After breakfast transfer to the train and depart Zeerust on the Pride of Africa, travelling via the Magaliesberg to Pretoria. Overnight Train. (B,L,D)
Day 12 - Pretoria
Arrive in Pretoria at 10:00 am and enjoy a lunch at the Rovos Rail Station followed by a Pretoria city tour. Depart at 5:00 pm for Cape Town. Overnight train. (B,L,D)
Day 13 - Kimberley
Before arriving at Kimberley at 9:45 am, the train passes a shallow lake with tremendous flocks of Lesser Flamingos. Upon arrival, tour the Big Hole, and underground mine that is also, said to be the largest man made hole. Also visit the Diamond Mine Museum. This unique museum is meant to take visitors back to Victorian Kimberley, with unique shops, taverns and a transport hall that houses displays of uncut diamonds, precious stones and jewelry. Day 14 - Cape Town
Arrive in Matjiesfontein at 8:30 am and explore the quaint village. Arrive at Cape Town Station at 8:00 pm.
