Embark on a 9-day rail vacation to discover Glacier and Waterton Lakes National Park, the world's first International Peace Park. Start in Chicago, where you will spend your first day at leisure to explore the city. Make sure to visit popular attractions like Navy Pier, the Shedd Aquarium and the Magnificent Mile. Spend the night in the Windy City before heading to Chicago's Union Station the next morning for your departure aboard Amtrak's iconic Empire Builder.
You will spend the night aboard the train before reaching your first destination, Glacier National Park. Glacier is full of utter natural beauty with picturesque scenery including soaring mountains, sparkling lakes and beautiful aspen forests. After your day of exploration, take a tour inside Glacier before you cross the Canadian border to Waterton Lakes National Park. Have the opportunity to eat lunch at the famed Prince of Wales Hotel, one of the most photographed hotels in the world.
After you spend time in Waterton Lakes, head back across the border to Glacier, where you will embark on a tour of the renowned Going-to-the-Sun Road. Spanning almost 50 miles along the park, this special attraction takes travelers alongside mountains, and showcases the true natural beauty of the park, including Lake McDonald. Spend your final day in Glacier on a boat tour of Swiftcurrent and Josephine Lake before boarding the Empire Builder for your journey to Seattle. Spend your final days of your Pacific Northwest vacation exploring the Emerald City, visiting iconic sites like Pike Place Market and the Space Needle.

Day 1 - Chicago Sightseeing
Welcome to Chicago! Take the day to explore the Windy City on your own. You may wish to take a walk down the Magnificent Mile for world-class shopping, dining and attractions, or visit some of the city's skyscrapers for unrivaled views of the skyline and outlying areas. A pre-tour wine and cheese reception will be held to meet your guide and fellow travelers. Overnight Chicago.
Day 2 - Empire Builder to Glacier National Park
This morning take a city tour of Chicago before transferring to historic Union Station for lunch at your leisure prior to boarding the iconic Empire Builder. Overnight train. (B, D)
Day 3 - Arrive Glacier National Park
Enjoy the day on board the train as the Empire Builder makes its way along the legendary route across the northern prairies. The train pulls into East Glacier in the early evening. After arrival, you will check into the rustic Glacier Park Lodge. Overnight East Glacier. (B, L, D)
Day 4 - Glacier National Park
This morning is free for you to explore on your own prior to an afternoon tour of the fir and aspen forests into Glacier National Park and the Two Medicine Valley. Overnight East Glacier Park. (B, D)
Day 5 - International Peace Park Tour
After breakfast, take a full-day tour inside Glacier National Park and across the Canadian border to Waterton Lakes National Park. Lunch in on your own. We suggest afternoon tea at the Prince of Wales Hotel, one of the most photographed hotels in the world. Overnight Glacier National Park. (B, D)
Day 6 - Explore the Going-to-the-Sun Road
Today's journey starts on the rugged eastern slopes and follows the glacially carved valleys of the St. Mary's region along the Going-to-the-Sun Road. Continue down the west side of the Park where you may elect to lunch at Lake McDonald Lodge. Overnight Glacier National Park. (B, D)
Day 7 - Glacier National Park/Empire Builder to Seattle
Enjoy your final day with a boat cruise of Swiftcurrent Lake and Josephine Lake. This afternoon, you will transfer back to Glacier Park Lodge and board Amtrak's Empire Builder for the trip to Seattle. Overnight train. (B, D)
Day 8 - Seattle Sightseeing
This morning you will arrive in Seattle, known as the Emerald City. Enjoy an early city tour, which will end in Pike Place Market for lunch at your leisure. There will be time at your leisure to explore the city before your finale dinner. Overnight Seattle. (B, D)
Day 9 - Tour Conclusion
Your tour comes to an end after breakfast. You may wish to extend your tour independently with a stay in Seattle or continue on for time at your leisure in nearby locales. (B)

Train and Hotel Accommodations
Hotels include Essex Inn Chicago, Glacier Park Lodge, Many Glacier Hotel, Warwick Seattle Hotel.
Amtrak accommodations are available in Coach class, Roomette, and Bedroom. Coach accommodations include a reclining seat with leg rest. Roomette accommodations include a private cabin featuring two comfortable seats beside a picture window during the day, converting to an upper and lower berth at night. Bedroom accommodations feature a sofa and chair by day, and upper and lower berth by night. Bedroom accommodations also include a sink and self-enclosed toilet and shower. All travelers have access to the Sightseer Lounge. All meals are included on board the train.
