The ever-changing landscapes of Western Canada await your exploration as you embark on a rail adventure from Banff to Vancouver and then fly out to the mystical islands of Haida Gwaii. The tour begins as you arrive in Calgary and are transferred to Banff, a resort town located in the heart of the Canadian Rockies. Here, outdoor adventures and glorious displays of nature’s prowess can be found around every turn, and your time is highlighted by a guided tour of Lake Louise and Moraine Lake. Moving on, board the Rocky Mountaineer for an all-daylight ride through mountains, canyons, deserts, rocky riversides and lush forests to Vancouver. As you arrive in the city, a guided tour offers a look at some of the most beloved sites, including Stanley Park and Granville Island Market. From Vancouver, it is off to the remarkable Ocean House retreat on Haida Gwaii. Day 1 - Arrive Calgary/Transfer to Banff
Arrive at Calgary International Airport, where a driver awaits for your private transfer to Banff. The drive is simply marvelous, with the diverse buildings of the city fading into the background and the towering Canadian Rocky Mountains coming into view. As you arrive in Banff, check in to your hotel, the Fairmont Banff Springs, and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure. Overnight Banff.
Day 2 - Lake Louise and Lake Moraine Sightseeing
Spend the morning exploring the offerings of Banff. Perhaps set out on an early morning hike or grab breakfast at one of the local restaurants. This afternoon, embark on a guided tour of some of the most beloved sites in the Rockies, Lake Louise, and Moraine Lake. These scenic lakes are both part of Banff National Park, which has been given UNESCO World Heritage Site designation, and offer some of the most iconic scenery of all the Rockies. During your tour, enjoy looks at Bow Valley Parkway, Baker Creek Mountain Resort, and the famous Chateau Lake Louise, in addition to the beautiful lakes. Day 3 - Rocky Mountaineer: Banff to Kamloops
Transfer to the rail station this morning to board the Rocky Mountaineer for a memorable ride through the Rockies to Kamloops. This daylight-only train follows a scenic route through the mountains, and highlights of today’s journey include the Continental Divide, the Spiral Tunnels, Kicking Horse Canyon and Roger’s Pass. You also pass Craigellachie, the place where the final spike of the Canadian Pacific Railway was driven. As you arrive in Kamloops this evening, transfer to your hotel and enjoy an evening at leisure. Overnight Kamloops. (B, L)
Day 4 - Rocky Mountaineer: Kamloops to Vancouver
Back onboard the Rocky Mountaineer this morning, the incredible journey presses on toward Vancouver. The changes in the scenery are quite dramatic today, leaving the mountains and entering the desert-like terrain of the Interior, then heading into lush, pristine forests and the urban scenes of Vancouver. Scenic highlights of today include the Thompson River and Hell’s Gate in the Fraser Canyon. You also enjoy views of the Coast and Cascade Mountains along the way. Upon arrival in Vancouver, transfer to the Fairmont Waterfront hotel and spend the remainder of the evening getting acquainted with the city. Overnight Vancouver. (B, L)
Day 5 - Vancouver Sightseeing
The very best of Vancouver lies ahead today as you explore the city on a guided sightseeing tour. Your informative guide offers tidbits of information about the city, its history and sites as you move between places such as the Robson Street Shopping District, Stanley Park, English Bay, Granville Island, Gastown, Chinatown and more. Enjoy photo stops at landmarks along the way, such as the First Nations Totem Poles in Stanley Park and Prospect Point, which boasts a fantastic view of Lion’s Gate Bridge. The momentum of the tour continues through to its final destination, the Vancouver Lookout. With your included admission, ride the elevator to the top of this 482-foot building and marvel at views of the city, the ocean and beyond. As you are returned to your hotel, take the evening at leisure to explore Vancouver’s restaurant scene or to revisit favorite destinations from today’s tour. Overnight Vancouver.
Day 6 - Haida Gwaii
This morning, your private transfer takes you to Vancouver Airport, where you board your chartered plane bound for Haida Gwaii. Located just 90 minutes off the coast of Vancouver, this set of islands is filled with centuries of indigenous culture, lush rainforest scenes and the solitude of nature. Your plane flies into Sandspit, one of the largest communities in the islands, and from here, you board a helicopter bound for Ocean House - a serene floating resort, and your home for the next 3 nights. As you arrive, resort staff greet you to assist with check in and to introduce you to the magic of Haida Gwaii. Enjoy a delicious breakfast buffet during your orientation, and then the remainder of the day is yours to explore this oceanside retreat. Spend the day at the spa, rejuvenating after days of travel, or enjoy one of the resort’s guided activities, such as a hike through the Peel Inlet, kayaking, paddleboarding, a presentation and learning experience with a guest artist or a visit to the ancient village of Ts’aahl. Days 7 & 8 - Ocean House
Each day at Ocean House begins with a generous breakfast, then the remainder of the time is yours to spend as you desire. Participate in the guided activities, relax on the beach, explore the island’s history with the onsite Cultural Interpreter or spend your time spotting the multitude of wildlife that calls Haida Gwaii home. In addition to the spa, there is also a full-service gym, a library, a hot tub and a sauna for your enjoyment. Your options are nearly limitless. Day 9 - Vancouver
Enjoy one last breakfast in the serene surroundings of Ocean House before returning to Vancouver. As you arrive at the Fairmont Waterfront hotel, check in and spend the remainder of your day exploring the city’s offerings. Perhaps take some time to walk through Stanley Park - a 1,000-acre oasis with stunning views of the Pacific Ocean, walking paths, a train ride, beaches and even an aquarium - or end your trip with a thrill by visiting the Capilano Suspension Bridge. Day 10 - Tour Conclusion
Your expedition through the Canadian Rockies and British Columbia concludes as you check out of your hotel. A private transfer takes you to Vancouver International Airport for your return flight home.
