This rail tour begins in Vancouver, where coastal scenery meets a lively culture. You will have some time to meander through the city’s parks and famed sites on your own before boarding your flight bound for Sonora Island in British Columbia’s Discovery Islands. Upon arriving at Sonora Resort, luxury surrounds you. You have the option to indulge in spa treatments, take part in one of the onsite activities, embark on one of the optional guided tours or to relax in the resort’s pool. Traveling back to the mainland, your journey into Canada’s interior begins with a ride aboard the famed rails of the Rocky Mountaineer. The train will take you through the varied landscape of British Columbia’s interior and to Kamloops - your gateway to the magnificent Canadian Rockies. From here, the route stays along the course of the Thompson River and through the beautiful mountain landscape to Jasper. Here, your adventure continues with a guided tour through Jasper National Park and a visit to the Columbia Icefield and Athabasca Glacier en route to Banff. In Banff, you will tour the national park, ride above the town on the Banff Gondola, explore Yoho National Park and enjoy time next to one of the most scenic lakes in all of Canada, Lake Louise. Day 1 - Vancouver ArrivalArrive in Vancouver and spend time exploring this scenic city on your own. Overnight in Vancouver.
Day 2 - Free Day in VancouverTake full advantage of a free day at leisure in Vancouver, and check out Vancouver’s must-see attractions like the Vancouver Aquarium (admission not included), Stanley Park, or Granville Island, or explore the city’s museums, art galleries, gardens, and varied neighborhoods. This afternoon, transfer to Vancouver International Airport for your flight to Sonora Resort in the Discovery Islands. Upon arrival at Sonora, check into your room and then explore some of Sonora’s luxurious amenities. Your accommodation at Sonora Resort includes gourmet meals, liquor and wine, beer, juice and soft drinks (additional charges may apply for premium spirits and wines), as well as complimentary wireless internet and unlimited worldwide phone calls. Day 3 - Sonora Resort Optional ActivitiesAfter a delicious breakfast, take advantage of the wealth of included activities at Sonora Resort. Sonora’s all-inclusive outdoor amenities include a swimming pool, hiking and biking trails, tennis court, a putting green, fly fishing ponds (equipment supplied) and more.
For guests seeking adventure beyond what’s included, three optional touring activities are available at additional cost: (1) a guided eco-tour in a Polaris vessel (a 1-hour tour of the surrounding area, learning about the history and taking in amazing views along the shoreline, including viewing wildlife and marine life in their natural environment), (2) world-class guided salmon-fishing in 22-25’ Cruiser boats, (4 hours, and includes all bait & tackle, floater suits, lifejackets, raingear and boots, fish care and boxing for transportation, and Saltwater Fishing Licensing), and (3) in September/October, grizzly bear viewing tours up Bute Inlet (5 hours, and includes transportation and up-close viewing from one of five grizzly stands stationed on the Orford River). Day 4 - Free Day at Sonora ResortToday, get out and enjoy the amenities of the resort, or perhaps go on another optional tour. When you’re ready to relax, enjoy Sonora’s roof top hot tubs, mineral pools, movie theatre, 9 hole putting green, virtual golf, or saunas. Later this afternoon, bid a fond farewell to Sonora Island and fly back to Vancouver, where you will be transferred to your hotel. Overnight in Vancouver. (B, L)

Day 5 - Vancouver to KamloopsTravel onboard the Rocky Mountaineer from the coastal city of Vancouver to Kamloops, in the heart of British Columbia’s interior. On today’s journey, you will see dramatic changes in scenery, from the lush green fields of the Fraser Valley, through forests and winding river canyons surrounded by the peaks of the Coast and Cascade Mountains, to the desert-like environment of the BC Interior. Highlights include the rushing waters of Hell’s Gate in the Fraser Canyon and the steep slopes and rock sheds along the Thompson River. Your day concludes as the Rocky Mountaineer travels along the shores of Kamloops Lake into Kamloops. Overnight in Kamloops. (B, L)
Day 6 - Kamloops to JasperYour journey continues north and east to the mighty Canadian Rockies and the province of Alberta. Once again you will be surrounded by dramatic scenery as you follow the banks of the North Thompson River through the Monashee and Cariboo Mountains, climbing ever nearer to the high peaks of the Continental Divide. Today’s highlights include Mount Robson, at 3,954 meters (12,972 feet) the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies, Pyramid Falls, and the climb over the Yellowhead Pass into Jasper National Park. Your rail journey ends this evening on arrival in the resort town of Jasper. Overnight in Jasper. (B, L)
Day 7 - Jasper Highlights TourJasper National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the Canadian Rockies’ largest national park. Today you will enjoy a scenic half-day tour of some of the park’s natural attractions and rugged peaks, and perhaps catch a glimpse of the wildlife that calls this region home. The remainder of the day is free for you to explore more of Jasper independently. Overnight in Jasper. (L)
Day 8 - Jasper to BanffTravel to Banff via one of the most scenic highways in the world, the Icefields Parkway. A stop will be made at Athabasca Falls before arriving at the Columbia Icefield. Here you will ride on an Ice Explorer to the middle of the Athabasca Glacier to learn more about is geological features. Your driver/guide will explain how glaciers are formed and point out some interesting geological features. Time will be available for lunch (not included). Afterward, a brief stop will be made at Bow Lake before arriving at Banff via Lake Louise late this afternoon. Overnight in Banff. (L)
Day 9 - Banff to Lake LouiseA half-day tour takes you into Yoho National Park to view some of its natural wonders. Among the attractions are the Spiral Tunnels, Emerald Lake and a natural rock bridge spanning the Kicking Horse River. The tour ends in Lake Louise where the remainder of the afternoon is at your leisure to enjoy this magnificent location. Overnight in Lake Louise.
Please note: While arrival at The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise will be approximately 1:00 p.m., scheduled check-in time is not until 4:00 p.m. In the event that your room is not ready, your luggage will be stored and you are free to enjoy the amenities of the hotel.
Day 10 - Lake Louise to Calgary with Panoramic Helicopter TourToday you will enjoy a full-day tour concluding in Calgary. Begin the morning with a sightseeing tour of Banff. Among the points of interest are Bow Falls, Lake Minnewanka, Surprise Corner and the Hoodoos. Banff Gondola included. Continue on to Kananaskis for the highlight of today’s adventure, a 12-minute Panoramic Helicopter Tour over the remarkable landscape of the Rockies. Your tour ends on arrival in Calgary late this afternoon. Overnight in Calgary.
Day 11- Calgary DepartureYour vacation ends upon checkout from your Calgary hotel.
