Day 1 - Depart Home
Overnight flight to London.
Day 2 - Arrive London
Welcome to the vibrant capital that is London, your home for the next two nights. Spend the day exploring the pomp and pageantry of a city that effortlessly combines old and new.
Day 3 - London Sightseeing
Join a Local Specialist this morning for a tour of the iconic sites of London, including Big Ben, the imposing Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey. Your afternoon is at leisure to go shopping on Carnaby Street, visit one of the fascinating museums or wander along the Thames watching ambitious Londoners bustle about on their day-to-day. (B)
Day 4 - London - Eurostar - Brussels - Amsterdam
We meet out Travel Director this morning before boarding the Eurostar™ for a high-speed train journey to Brussels, driving through the lush Belgian and Dutch countryside by luxury coach to the beautiful Dutch capital of Amsterdam. Take to its labyrinthine canals lined with charming gabled façades joining your new travel companions for a canal cruise on a glass-topped boat which includes a light dinner and welcome drink. (B, D)
Day 5 - Amsterdam - Cologne - Rhine Cruise - Rhineland
Traveling east, we cross the border into Germany stopping in Cologne to see the iconic twin spires of its imposing Cathedral, which is said to be the final resting place of the Three Wise Men. We cruise from Boppard and St. Goar along the mighty Rhine, lined with medieval villages and fairy-tale castles that cling to the lush green hills. This evening we stay in the Rhinelands and enjoy dinner at our hotel. (B, D)
Day 6 - Rhineland - Heidelberg - Colmar - Engelberg
The imposing ruins of Heidelberg Castle feature on our drive through this vibrant university city en route to the quaint medieval town of Colmar where we will enjoy an orientation before continuing our journey through the picturesque vineyards of Alsace. Our home the next two nights is the stunning mountain retreat of Engelberg where we will dine in our hotel tonight before continuing our journey through Switzerland tomorrow. (B, D)
Day 7 - Lucerne Excursion
Spend the day exploring the charming medieval town of Lucerne, paying tribute to the Swiss Guard who lost their lives defending Louise XVI during the French Revolution at the mournful Lion Monument, and admiring the splendour of the flower-lined Chapel Bridge with its 17th century paintings. Spend the rest of the day at leisure ambling along cobblestone streets lined with ornate façades in search of the perfect Swiss chocolate, or perhaps join an Optional Experience up one of the surrounding peaks for spectacular panoramic views before returning to scenic Engelberg. Day 8 - Engelberg - Liechtenstein - Innsbruck
Admire rugged alpine scenery en route to the fairy-tale Principality of Liechtenstein stopping in the capital, Vaduz. We cross the Austrian border, meandering along the spectacular Arlberg Pass amidst a sea of snow-capped mountains through the Tyrol to Innsbruck. Visiting its Altstadt where we will see the famous Golden Roof completed in 1500 for Emperor Maximilian I to mark his wedding. (B)
Day 9 - Innsbruck - Venice
Cross the extraordinary Europa Bridge, rising almost 200 metres above the Wipp Valley, following the Brenner Pass past alpine pastures and pine-clad peaks into Italy and the magical island city of Venice. Spend this evening at leisure gliding by gondola through the city's labyrinthine canals, enjoying a Campari spritz in a quiet piazza or watching the sun set over the romantic Grand Canal. (B, D)
Day 10 - Venice Orientation
Navigating the bustling canals by private launch, we arrive in the gateway of Venice, St. Mark's Square, to hear the city's centuries-old history and view the ornate Doge's Palace and Bridge of Sighs. Taking to the turquoise blue Adriatic waters yet again, we arrive on Giudecca Island for a fascinating Cultural Insight into the fine tradition of Venetian glassmaking. We spend the afternoon getting lost in Venice. Enjoy a cruise around the lagoon, zigzag up the le Mercerie shopping for exquisite crafts or admire the Renaissance architecture for which Venice is so famous. (B)
Day 11 - Venice - Rome
Travel over the green and golden landscapes of the Apennine hills through beautiful Tuscany and Umbria, arriving in Rome where you'll spend the next two nights. This evening is yours at leisure to embrace la dolce vita. Relax in the Piazza Navona with an espresso watching the beautiful people or sit on the Spanish Steps whilst enjoying a tasty gelato. (B)
Day 12 - Rome Sightseeing
Delve into the treasures of the Vatican City with a Local Specialist who will take you on a sightseeing tour through St. Peter's Basilica to see Michelangelo's sorrowful Pietà. We cross the Tiber into Ancient Rome to see the mighty Colosseum where brave gladiators fought to the applause of exhilarated spectators, and enjoy views of Circus Maximus which once hosted chariot races. The rest of your day is yours to explore the sights and sounds of the capital of the world. Ramble through Rome's grand boulevards, shop up a storm on the Via del Corso or perhaps take an Optional Excursion to see Michelangelo's beautiful frescoes on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. (B)
Day 13 - Rome - Pompeii - Sorrento
Enjoy a scenic drive through the vineyards of Frascati into the Campania region where we'll meet a Local Specialist who will share the tragic story of Pompeii, a city buried in ash and lost for centuries following the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. We arrive in the sophisticated seaside retreat of Sorrento this evening where we will spend the night. (B, D)
Day 14 - Sorrento - Capri - Assisi
Cross the deep blue waters of the Bay of Naples to the beautiful Isle of Capri, ascending by funiculare to Capri Town where we will join our Local Specialist for a walking tour through its charming lanes and trendy Piazza Umberto I. Traveling north, we view the restored Abbey of Monte Cassino, the site of a bloody World War II battle, arriving later in mystical Assisi to view St. Francis' Basilica featuring spectacular frescoes by Giotto. Day 15 - Assisi - Florence Sightseeing
Beautiful Tuscan and Umbrian landscapes that have inspired painters and poets for centuries follow our journey to Florence, the cradle of the Renaissance. We join a Local Specialist on an included walking tour to see the city's spectacular heritage, architecture and open-air art, including views of the marble Duomo and 400-year-old Ponte Vecchio, and a visit to Piazza della Signoria, political hub centuries ago. Learn about the quality and workmanship of one of this city's historic industries at a demonstration of Florentine leathercraft. (B)
Day 16 - Florence - Pisa - Monaco - Nice
Journey to Pisa and its Square of Miracles to see the Leaning Tower and its imposing Baptistery. Leaving the sights, sounds and flavours of Italy behind, we visit the playground of Monaco and see the ornate Monte Carlo Casino before arriving in Nice, our home for the next two nights. (B)
Day 17 - Nice - St. Paul de Vence Excursion
Tread in the footsteps of famous French actors and artists who have regarded the medieval town of St. Paul de Vence as a haven, before visiting the historic Fragonard perfumery to learn how intoxicating French fragrances are crafted. (B)
Day 18 - Nice - Avignon - Lyon
Visit what was once the centre of Christendom in the Middle Ages, the papal city of Avignon where you will see the Palais des Papes, Cathedral and the famous Pont d'Avignon which have been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Enjoy a delicious Be My Guest lunch of Provençal cooking on the banks of the Sorgue with Poppy Salinger, who will regale you with stories of her famous former husband before traveling to the historically strategic city of Lyon on the River Rhône. Here we will enjoy an orientation tour including views of Fourvière Hill, the "hill that prays", and the impressive Place Bellecour before spending the evening at leisure. (B, D)
Day 19 - Lyon - Beaune - Paris
We leave the beautiful Rhône landscape behind us, visiting the charming walled village of Beaune, the wine capital of Burgundy, before continuing north to Paris, the City of Light. This evening is yours to indulge in the sophistication and splendour of this romantic city. Enjoy a dinner cruise along the magical Seine, wander through the cobblestone lanes of charming Montmartre or perhaps consider a trip to one of the city's most famous cabaret shows embracing in French pageantry and joie de vivre. (B)
Day 20 - Paris Sightseeing
Join a Local Specialist to see the sights and sounds of Paris, including the grand Champs Élysées, Place de la Concorde and the Arc de Triomphe, remembering the fallen heroes of the France. See the city's iconic skyline stretching far below as you ascend to the second level of the Eiffel Tower - the white dome of Notre Dame and glass peak of the Louvre Pyramid loom in the distance. Our epic European adventure near its end, join your Travel Director and newfound friends for a Farewell Dinner this evening. (B, D)
Day 21 - Depart Paris
Today bid adieu to your fellow travelers and Travel Director at the end of your memorable holiday. An airport transfer is available. Conditions apply. (B)
