Day 1 – Amsterdam/Embarkation
Arrive in Amsterdam and transfer to your Amadeus river cruise vessel. Settle into your cabin and get acquainted with your new surroundings. Later, enjoy a welcome drink in the lounge before a sumptuous 5-course dinner in the restaurant. Overnight ship. (D)
Day 2 – Amsterdam
After breakfast on board the ship, enjoy your choice of excursions. Your first option is a guided sightseeing tour of Amsterdam featuring all the best-loved sites in this port city, including the Royal Palace, Dam Square and the city’s pretty canals. Your second option is a visit to the town of Hoorn, where you embark on a nostalgic steam train trip aboard the Medemblik Steam Railroad. Colorful tulips fields and traditional windmills comprise the backdrop of this heritage train excursion aboard rail cars that date back to the train’s golden era in the 1920’s. Overnight ship. Day 3 – The Battlefields of Ypres
We arrive in Flemish Belgium and the historic city of Ghent. This morning, Colonel Piers Storie-Pugh MBE steps aboard to deliver a lecture about the battlefields in the region. This afternoon, our excursion takes us to the Ypres Battlefields, a key battlefront in World War I. We also see the Tyne Cot cemetery, where many of the soldiers were buried. Overnight ship. Day 4 – Ghent Sightseeing
Venture out into Ghent’s narrow streets and pretty boulevards for a guided tour. Note the architecture throughout the town, which lends a touch of splendor to the buildings; we discover some of the finest examples on our tour, which includes the impressive St Bavo's Cathedral and the Belfry. After lunch, you’re free to explore more of Ghent at leisure. Overnight ship. (B, L, D)
Day 5 – Bruges
Today we pay a visit to the fairytale city of Bruges, an exceptional example of a medieval town. Here we discover the canals, churches and noble old townhouses famous across Europe. Overnight ship. (B, L, D)
Day 6 – Arnhem
We arrive in Arnhem this morning with another choice of excursions. You may wish to take a guided tour of the Hartenstein Airbourne Museum in nearby Oosterbeek. The museum features a collection which includes various artifacts from WWII’s Battle of Arnhem. Alternatively, you may wish to visit the Netherlands Open Air Museum, which recalls the storied history of flight in this country. Tonight, enjoy a Gala dinner with our captain and crew. Day 7 – The Keukenhof Gardens
This morning we arrive back in Amsterdam and are joined on board by Charlie Dimmock, star of the BBC's Ground Force. Enjoy her tips on horticulture and garden care as well as a question and answer session with her. Later, we experience a true highlight of the cruise: a visit to the world-famous Keukenhof Gardens. Featuring 7 million flowering bulbs of all sizes and variety, this is one of the best floral displays in the world. This evening, a Dutch sea shanty choir serenades us onboard the ship. Day 8 – Amsterdam/Disembarkation
Your river cruise concludes after breakfast this morning as you disembark your ship in Amsterdam. (B)
