About the Tour
The charms of the Rhône River beckon on this 8-day France river cruise. Begin in Lyon and board a luxury Amadeus river cruise vessel, transporting you along the Rhône River in comfort and style. The first port of call is Beaune, deep in the heart of Burgundy’s wine country. Sailing south again, we dock back in Lyon for a city tour, including its UNESCO World Heritage Site Old Town. Continue cruising south to Tournon sur Rhône, where a scenic rail excursion aboard the Train de l'Ardèche showcases the stunning Gorges du Doux region. Additional ports of call in Avignon; Arles, whose beauty inspired Van Gogh’s paintings; the Camargue Delta; and the picturesque Ardèche Gorge, the Grand Canyon of Europe, are all on the itinerary before returning to Lyon.

Day 1 – Lyon/Embarkation
Arrive in Lyon and transfer on your own to the pier, where you meet your Amadeus river cruise vessel. Board your luxurious ship and settle into your cabin before joining your fellow travelers for a welcome cocktail. This evening enjoy a splendid 5-course meal before setting sail for Beaune. Day 2 - Beaune & Wine Tasting
Our first port of call is the medieval town of Beaune. Situated in the heart of the Burgundy wine region, its town walls, terracotta roofs, and fascinating historical buildings await your exploration. Disembark your vessel for a sightseeing tour showcasing the town’s must-see sights. A special highlight is a tasting of some of the regional wines that make this town and the Burgundy region so famous. Later, we return to the ship for a leisurely cruise back to Lyon. Overnight ship. Day 3 - Lyon Sightseeing
Our vessel arrives in Lyon this morning, where we disembark for a guided tour. Lyon is situated at the confluence of the Rhône and the Saône Rivers. The beautiful pinks, oranges, reds, and whites of the buildings along the city’s riverfront point to the city's elegance. Our tour takes us along the streets and over the bridges to explore some of the history and highlights of the city. Return to the ship for lunch followed by an afternoon at leisure as we cruise to Tournon sur Rhône. This is one of the most scenic and panoramic sections of the river. The spacious sun deck is the best place to admire the scenery. Watch as the rolling hills dotted with verdant vineyards rise and fall away under the gaze of various châteaux and stately homes. Day 4 - Train de l'Ardèche
Early this morning, we travel by coach to Tournon sur Rhône's railroad station to board the Train de l'Ardèche. This scenic rail journey winds through the foothills and valleys of the spectacular Gorges du Doux region and into sections of the gorges inaccessible by other modes of transportation. Later, our ship continues its course to Avignon. Overnight ship. (B, L, D)
Day 5 - Exploring Avignon
In Avignon today, we head out on a guided tour of this city famous for being the seat of the Pope for a brief period in the 14th century. Its striking white papal palaces and majestic cathedral are just some of the highlights we see on our walk through the boulevards and squares of Avignon's historic center, which earned UNESCO World Heritage status in 1995. Afterward we enter the Pope's Palace, admiring its spectacular interiors and the range of religious artifacts collected here. After your tour, there is time to discover the city at your own pace. After dinner tonight, our ship sets sail for Arles. (B, L, D)
Day 6 - The Camargue Delta & Arles
We begin the day with a guided tour of Arles, whose enchanting streets provided the inspiration for many of Vincent Van Gogh's famous paintings. This afternoon, select from a choice of two excursions. You may wish to take an excursion to the beautiful Camargue Delta, where the Rhône opens out into the Mediterranean—a treat for nature lovers as the wetlands and park area are home to nearly 400 species of bird, pink flamingos and wild horses. Alternatively, you may elect to visit the iconic arches of the Pont du Gard, an ancient Roman aqueduct and an UNESCO World Heritage Site which spans the Gardon River. Overnight ship. (B, L, D)
Days 7 - The Ardèche Gorge
Today’s excursion takes us to the “Grand Canyon of Europe,” the stunning Ardèche Gorge. Nearly 19 miles in length and made up of snaking rivers and gorges, this is a natural monument. Our tour takes us to some of the most impressive sights here, including the Pont d'Arc. Afterward, we rejoin the ship at Le Pouzin and begin our return trip to Lyon. Our day concludes with the captain's gala dinner. Overnight ship. (B, L, D)
Day 8 – Tour Conclusion
Your Rhône river cruise adventure concludes after breakfast today. (B)
