COVID-19 FAQs

We have complied answers to some of the most commonly asked questions below.  Please note that this section will be updated regularly to reflect any changes to guidelines or regulations. 

Will VBR be providing personal protective equipment to all travelers?

We recommend that all travelers bring their own PPE - including masks, face shields, gloves and/or hand sanitizer -  to ensure they are comfortable while traveling.

What requirements are in place with your suppliers (i.e. hotels, ships, motor coaches, rail operators, etc.)?

Our suppliers share our commitment to keep you healthy and have pledged that they are following federal and local requirements. Be advised that health and safety requirements vary from one location to the next and can change with little or no notice.

Should I expect that parts of my itinerary may be changed or altered?

If we are made aware of any material impact to your itinerary because of COVID-19 restrictions, your Rail Specialist will proactively contact you via email or phone to communicate the change(s). If you have not been contacted, you can assume that your tour is operating.

Is my international tour operating and what documentation do I need?

As a global company, our itineraries attract customers from around the world.  We operate our international tours when it is safe to do. Travelers are responsible for ensuring that they have the appropriate travel documentation and that they meet the entry requirements for the countries to which they are traveling. If your tour is operating and you elect to cancel or change travel dates, your reservation is subject to standard terms and conditions.  

What are the current health requirements for VBR travelers?

All travelers are required to self-certify that they are healthy and fit to travel. Escorted tour participants must complete and sign our waiver of liability prior to joining the tour. Please note that regulations and requirements are continually changing and vary at the country, state and local level. 

Does VBR require a vaccine or negative COVID-19 test?

At this time, Vacations By Rail is not requiring guests to show proof of a negative COVID-19 test or vaccination in order to travel. Following the guidance and recommendations of national and local agencies, we have implemented safety and sanitation protocols such as enhanced cleaning, face coverings, physical distancing and frequent hand washing/sanitization to ensure the health and safety of our travelers while on tour. Protocols and procedures are subject to change at any time and vary by country, supplier and itinerary and in some situations, proof of vaccine or a negative COVID-19 test may be required for participation.

Do I need to carry my vaccination card?

If you are traveling to the National Parks, a digital or paper photocopy of your vaccination card along with a photo ID is sufficient. However, policies vary by destination and suppliers.  As destinations re-open to travel, we encourage you to consult your travel documents as well as the official government, state, or local tourism board web sites for the destination(s) you are visiting to ensure you are in compliance with their regulations.

What COVID-19 tests are accepted?

Some itineraries and destinations require you to provide negative results from a COVID-19 test. In this case, please be prepared to show a negative test result from a PCR/molecular test administered 72 hours prior to departure, unless otherwise noted. Vacations By Rail recommends consulting the official government, state, or local tourism board web sites for the destination(s)you are visiting, as requirements may differ by destination.

What if I feel symptomatic on my trip?

Customers who are feeling unwell and/or are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 are urged to stay home, self-isolate and seek medical attention. Travelers feeling unwell or experiencing COVID-19 symptoms while traveling on an escorted tour should notify his/her Tour Manager immediately. Tour Managers will isolate the guest(s) from the group and help them seek medical attention. Independent travelers are urged to follow the CDC and local government guidelines, self-isolate and seek medical attention.

Is my Tour Manager vaccinated?

All Vacations By Rail tour managers are fully vaccinated for COVID-19. In addition to being ready and eager to travel, each are aligned with Vacations By Rail's commitment to Traveling Safer Together, are aware of health and safety procedures, and are briefed on the best safe travel practices for each destination we visit.

If someone tests positive for COVID-19 after the tour returns, will VBR notify all participants?

Absolutely! If Vacations By Rail receives notification that a traveler has tested positive for COVID-19 within 14-days of their return, we will notify any travelers with whom s/he may have come in contact.
