Coronavirus Travel Updates

Due to the Coronavirus outbreak, many of our 2020 itineraries have been impacted by the cancellation or suspension of services. If your travel plans are affected by these disruptions, you will be proactively contacted by Vacations By Rail.

As a result of increased travel restrictions and government advisements, Vacations By Rail is implementing a program to provide peace of mind and assist our travelers with options and flexibility.

If you are scheduled to travel with us in 2020, we have altered our policies as follows:

Customers departing on an Escorted tour on or before August 31, 2020:

  • May elect to change their departure to travel later in 2020 or 2021 free of charge with no change fee or price increase. For itineraries including a river cruise, customers must rebook the same cabin type and travel month to ensure no price increase.
  • May elect to change to an alternative tour traveling in 2020 or 2021 with no change fee. (Difference in price is additional)  
  • May elect to receive a refund in the form of a 2021 Future Travel Credit for 100% of all monies received.

Customers departing on an Escorted tour between September 1 - October 31, 2020:

  • May elect to change their departure to travel later in 2020 or 2021 with no change fee, but customers must pay a price increase, if applicable. If the new tour is priced less, the balance will be refunded in the form of a 2021 Future Travel Credit.
  • May elect to change to an alternative tour traveling in 2020 or 2021 with no change fee. (Difference in price is additional)  
  • May elect to receive a refund in the form of a 2021 Future Travel Credit for 100% of all monies received.

Customers departing on an Escorted tour after October 31, 2020: 

  • Standard policies apply for changes and cancellations for all escorted rail tours.

Customers traveling on an Independent vacation in 2020:

  • May elect to change their departure to travel later in 2020 or 2021 with no change fee and no price increase. (Customers must be traveling in the same class of service; supplier fees, if applicable, are additional)
  • May elect to change to an alternative itinerary for travel in 2020 or 2021 with no change fee. (Difference in price and supplier fees, if applicable, are additional)
  • May elect to receive a refund in the form of a 2021 Future Travel Credit for 100% of all monies received less any supplier fees.

We are currently prioritizing customers traveling on or before August 31. If you are traveling during that time frame and have a question regarding your specific itinerary, please contact your Rail Specialist at 877-929-7245. Otherwise, we would like to ask that you submit your inquiry via email.  We appreciate your patience during this complex time.

Any change to the current situation will be communicated directly to customers.  When we become aware of advice or guidance that will impact our itineraries, we are contacting our impacted customers to counsel them on their options.
