Day 1 - Depart Chicago
California & Northwest Coastal Odyssey tour members will meet the Tour Director in the Metropolitan Lounge at Chicago’s Union Station throughout the morning. We’ll board Amtrak’s Empire Builder, a double-decker, Superliner-equipped train, in time for its afternoon departure. This famous train will carry us across seven northern states to Everett, WA. Relax in your comfortable private Roomette sleeping accommodations. Bedrooms are available at an additional cost. After settling in, you may want to go to the glass-walled Sightseer Lounge car for spectacular viewing of the passing scenery. All full-course, tastefully prepared, dining car meals are included. Day 2 - En Route to Glacier National Park
During the day we will roll across the remote lands of North Dakota and eastern Montana. This evening a dramatic panorama of Rocky Mountain peaks will begin to rise above the horizon, becoming increasingly dynamic as we approach Glacier National Park. The scenery is striking as we wind past waterfalls, river gorges and other sights. The glass-walled lounge or dining car is an excellent vantage point. Overnight train. (B, L, D)
Day 3 - Everett / Vancouver
You may want to rise early to watch the sun come up over some spectacular scenery. This morning the Empire Builder will enter the 7.8 mile-long Cascade Tunnel. For the next several hours we’ll wind through the scenic Cascade Mountains. Arrival into Everett is scheduled for 8:28 a.m. We will board our motorcoach and continue to Vancouver, one of North America’s most prosperous cities and one of its most beautiful. We will embark on a three-and-a-half hour sightseeing tour of the city. The tour will include Gastown, Chinatown, Stanley Park, English Bay, Marine Drive, the waterfront and Queen Elizabeth Park with an “on-your-own” lunch stop at Granville Island. Following our tour we will check into the deluxe Blue Horizon Hotel, our home tonight. The hotel is convenient to many of this great city’s major attractions. Overnight Vancouver. (B)
Day 4 - Embark on Princess Cruise Line's Emerald Princess®
This morning is free to explore or relax. At noon we’ll transfer to the beautiful Princess Cruise Line’s Emerald Princess®. Following a bountiful luncheon, you can relax or explore this gorgeous ship. The Princess Patter newspaper is delivered nightly to your stateroom. It will be your guide to the activities and events of the following day. Departure is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Overnight ship. (L, D)
Day 5 - Cruising
This morning we arrive in beautiful Victoria, British Columbia. Victoria exudes old-world charm. Fragrant and colorful flowers are everywhere. The city was first known as Fort Victoria and is known for its beautiful gardens and very British feel.
Optional shore excursions include: A Stroll Through Victoria, Enchanting Butchart Gardens, Butchart and Butterfly Gardens, High Tea at the Gatsby Mansion & City Highlights, Double Decker City Highlights Tour and Victoria by Horse-Drawn Trolley. Overnight ship. (B, L, D)
Day 6 - Astoria, Oregon
The oldest American settlement west of the Rockies, Astoria offers a rich history for your exploration. Not far from Astoria is Fort Astoria, the Heritage Museum, Astoria Column and the nationally renowned Columbia River Maritime Museum. Fort Clatsop was the winter encampment for the Lewis and Clark expedition from December 1805 to March 1806.

Days 7 - Cruising
Ahh, now this is relaxing! There is as much or as little as you care to do. Activities typically include language classes, bingo, cruise staff-conducted trivia and sports (ping pong, putting and chipping, etc.) competitions, movie screenings (with freshly popped popcorn), art auctions and casino tournaments. Of course you can always just curl up with a good book as the blue Pacific Ocean drifts by. Overnight ship. (B, L, D)
Day 8 - San Francisco
This morning we arrive in the famous “City by the Bay”, San Francisco. This is one of the most romantic and cosmopolitan cities in the United States. You’ll find everything from colorful history, museums, world-class shopping and superb restaurants. You’ll want to see Chinatown, Golden Gate Park, Jackson Square, the Mission District, the Presidio and Fisherman’s Wharf. With its picturesque sights and pungent smells, Fisherman’s Wharf attracts millions of visitors annually. You’ll have time to discover the excellent restaurants, markets, import houses and souvenir shops.’

Day 9 - Cruising
Relax and enjoy all the amenities this ship has to offer. Relax in the freshwater pools and hot tub, try your luck at the Vegas Style Casino or shop at one of the many boutiques. Overnight ship. (B, L, D)
Day 10 - Santa Barbara
Called the American Riviera, Santa Barbara is a place where food, art, history, fashion, wine and sunshine mix to create a delightful and unique experience. The Spanish and Moorish style buildings add to the city’s charm. Santa Barbara’s Old Mission goes back to the 1700’s and was built to bring Christianity to the Chumash Indians. Many consider this to be one of America’s most beautiful cities. Just outside of Santa Barbara is Santa Ynez Valley, home to numerous world-renowned wineries.
Optional shore excursions include: Santa Barbara by Trolley, Montecity Stars and History tour, Solvang and Wine Tasting, Coastal Whale Watching, Whale Watching (via a luxury catamaran), and Wine Tasting and a Picnic Lunch. Overnight ship. (B, L, D)
Day 11 - Los Angeles / En Route
We’ll disembark this morning and board a motorcoach for a tour of Los Angeles. On today’s sightseeing tour we’ll encounter many famous attractions. We’ll see Beverly Hills, West Hollywood and visit Hollywood’s Walk of Fame where you see the hand and foot prints of the stars! We’ll visit the Hollywood & Highland Center home of the TCL Chinese Theatre (formerly Grauman’s and Mann’s Chinese Theatres) and the Dolby Theatre (formerly Kodak Theatre), home of the Academy Awards. We’ll enjoy an on-your-own lunch at the famous Farmers Market with a variety of food, fresh fruit and baked goods as well as post cards and souvenirs.
After the tour we’ll continue to Los Angeles Union Station where we’ll board Amtrak’s 6:10 p.m. departure of the Southwest Chief for Chicago. You’ll enjoy private-room sleeping accommodations, all the train meals and other amenities featured on your westbound train. Count on a full-course dining car dinner upon departure. Overnight train. Day 12 - En Route
The Sightseer Lounge will provide a great vantage point to experience the fascinating scenery of Arizona and New Mexico. Overnight train. (B, L, D)
Day 13 - En Route to Chicago
The Southwest Chief will roll across northern Missouri, a corner of Iowa and all of Illinois before our late afternoon arrival in Chicago. Some members will change to trains bound for Midwest, Eastern and Southern home cities. Others will stay overnight and continue home tomorrow. (B, L)

Train and Hotel Accommodations
Roomette accommodations include a private cabin featuring two comfortable seats beside a picture window during the day, converting to an upper and lower berth at night.
Bedroom accommodations feature a sofa and chair by day, and upper and lower berth by night. Bedroom accommodations also include a sink and self-enclosed toilet and shower.
All travelers have access to the Sightseer Lounge. Roomette and Bedroom accommodations include all meals aboard the train.
