About the tour

Canada's snowy landscape awaits on this grand winter adventure. You will experience the culture of Vancouver, see the stunning beauty of the Canadian Rockies and be enamored by the hustle and bustle of Toronto. Best of all, all of your travel is done aboard one of VIA Rail's most famous rail lines, the Canadian. Your journey begins in Vancouver, where you will have ample time to sightsee on your own. From Vancouver, you board VIA Rail's Canadian for a luxurious overnight train ride to Jasper in the heart of the Canadian Rockies. With two days to snowshoe, hike, ice skate and explore the winter landscape, you can take on this mountain town however you see fit. The final leg of this Canadian Snow Train tour takes you the rest of the way through Alberta, into the vast landscape of Saskatchewan and through the "big sky" prairies over the course of three nights. As the train pulls into the station in Toronto, you will have one more day of adventure, in which you will explore the city's center by tour and then experience the vibrancy of Toronto on your own. With the contrast of big cities and peaceful mountains and onboard amenities that make your travel time seem as though you are moving on a hotel on wheels, this winter rail vacation is one to remember.

This itinerary is also available from Toronto to Vancouver based on your travel preference.

Flyover Canada is not available for select departures in January due to maintenance.

I very much enjoyed the trip across Canada. The food was great. Two things that I think could be better--cleanliness of the compartment (especially the floor) and there was no entertainment car, which I was expecting.

The Canadian Snow Train with three nights in Jasper was just spectacular! We always wanted to take a train across Canada and this one filled the bill. This trip takes you through five Canadian Provinces: British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario. I highly recommend doing this trip in winter because the snow just makes everything so beautiful and you are sitting on the train just taking it all in, not even wearing a coat! The three nights in Jasper was also wonderful and yes, you will need a coat but not as many layers as you might think. Yes, it is cold but it is a dry cold and not the damp coldness we have in the east.
