About the tour

Experience the best of the Canadian wilderness in winter and discover spectacular scenery as well as vibrant Canadian cities. Winter is an ideal time to travel as the rates are lower, the trains are less crowded, and the staff has more time to share their "tales of the rails" with you. Be a part of this exciting adventure onboard VIA Rail's Canadian train as you hear the "call of the wild."

This tour takes you through five of Canada's provinces, as you travel east from the oceanside city of Vancouver where you have time to explore and spend one night in this town. Then the heart of your journey begins as you settle into your train for a four-night trek through the amazing scenery of Canada in winter. Enjoy views of the snow-capped Canadian Rockies, as you twist and turn along parts of the landscape you can only reach via rail. The domed skyline car gives you great views of the passing scenery as you enjoy the landscape and search for wildlife.

As you bid goodbye to the Rockies, you'll approach the country's largest city, Toronto. You'll arrive in Toronto relaxed, refreshed, and ready to discover all the treasures of this city.

This itinerary is also available from Toronto to Vancouver based on your travel preference.

Flyover Canada is not available for select departures in January due to maintenance.

In British Columbia, plains and fields come into view as you move away from the Pacific Ocean. Snow-covered peaks, forests, lakes, and streams paint a picture of Mother Nature at her best. Moving into the Canadian Rockies, you will follow winding mountain tracks through tunnels and across bridges. Amazing vistas await around each bend, and you can take them all in from your seat or from the domed windows of the sightseeing car. You might even catch sights of a bear, elk or moose in the snow. Approximately halfway through the 4,466-kilometer journey, the train will stop in Winnipeg, once the capital of the fur trading industry and now a hub of history, art, and culture, for a few hours of leisure time off the train. Sleeper cabins with private toilet, food included, non alcoholic beverages included, snacks, and entertainment on the train is fantastic. The shared shower is a little less fantastic, might need and automated sanitization system. The experience was 10/10 would recommend.
