Day 1 - Empire Builder to Glacier National Park
Board Amtrak’s Empire Builder at Chicago’s historic Union Station for the overnight train journey across the northern prairie states to Glacier National Park. Overnight train. (D Sleeping Car passengers only)
Day 2 - Arrival in Glacier National Park
Spend the day admiring the passing scenery from your onboard accommodations or from the train’s Sightseer Lounge, offering panoramic views from its comfortable seating and floor-to-ceiling windows. The Empire Builder is scheduled to arrive in East Glacier Park at 6:45 pm. A Vacations By Rail host will greet you at the train station, located a short walk from your hotel. Day 3 - Glacier National Park Sightseeing
Get a comprehensive introduction to Glacier National Park today as you embark on a full-day sightseeing tour. Depart at 9:00 am aboard a historic Red Jammer for a drive over Marias Pass, with wildlife viewing at Goat Lick and a stop at the Izaak Walton Inn. After an optional lunch at Lake McDonald Lodge, tour the cedar and hemlock forests that lie within the Lake McDonald Valley. Ascend to the high alpine region of the Going-to-the-Sun Road at Logan Pass and down into the St. Mary Valley. Stop at the Wild Goose Island overlook for another incredible photo opportunity. The tour finishes with grand vistas of grassland, prairie and mountains as you arrive back at your hotel. This evening is at your leisure. Overnight Glacier National Park. (B)
Day 4 - Glacier at Leisure
The morning and afternoon are at leisure to experience Glacier National Park as you wish. Embark on an optional International Peace Park tour, visiting the Many Glacier Valley and crossing the border into Waterton Lakes National Park. Or, take advantage of the spa services at your hotel, enjoy a guided horseback ride, or hike some of the Park’s beautiful trails. At 7:00 pm, transfer to Whitefish and check into your hotel. Overnight Whitefish. (B)
Day 5 - Day at Leisure
The day is yours to take advantage of exciting sightseeing and attractions in and around Whitefish. Adventurous travelers will enjoy the alpine zip line at Whitefish Mountain Resort, and visitors of all ages will love the alpine slide there as well. Anglers may wish to take advantage of the area’s fishing. Or, return to Glacier National Park for another day of exploration. Overnight Whitefish. (B)
Day 6 - Vacation Conclusion
Your Glacier National Park vacation comes to an end after breakfast this morning. Depart at your leisure for the Whitefish or Kalispell Airports. Your Vacations By Rail host can assist you with reservations for transfers. (B,)
Hotels include the Glacier Park Lodge and Grouse Mountain Lodge. Amtrak accommodations are in Coach class and include a reclining seat with leg rest and access to the Sightseer Lounge car.
Upgrades to Roomette and Bedroom sleeping accommodations are available for an additional fee and include all meals aboard the train.
