Green Mountain Flyer Train

Fall in Quebec and Vermont is magical and while there are many ordinary programs, entirely by bus, no one offers a deluxe program by train, least of all one featuring a classic private train ride on a glorious Streamliner from the golden age of Train travel. With a special train as our centerpiece, we have developed a leisurely and elegant holiday with fine hotels, great dining, personalized attention, a glorious train trip through the Autumn colors of Vermont aboard the 'Green Mountain Flyer' and much more.

Beginning on a grand note, we depart New York and other Eastern points aboard our very own 'Montreal Limited', a splendid and roomy comfortable 'Club car' with big windows, spacious seats, attentive staff, fresh flowers and open bar with all meals, wines & spirits included. Our journey over the stunningly beautiful Canadian Pacific Railway from New York to Montreal, a day trip via the Hudson River Valley, through the Adirondacks and past Lake Champlain.

This journey was recently acclaimed to be one of the top ten train rides in North America by the BBC and we quite agree. The only thing that can make this visual feast even nicer is an Afternoon Tea with scones, cream cakes and Earl Grey tea as we roll north, and we have included this too! We invite you to join us! All Aboard!

Travel back in time with us to a more civilized and enjoyable era of travel aboard the ‘Montreal Limited’, the perfect beginning to an ideal holiday. A beautiful restored Lounge car, built originally for the Santa Fe Railroad and their El Capitan Streamliner, this vintage train makes travel fun again with large windows, comfortable 'Club Car' seating, fresh flowers, an attentive staff and, naturally, all meals, wines & spirits are included as we travel to Montreal from New York over the Canadian Pacific Railway on a beautiful day trip through the Adirondacks and past Lake Champlain. This is a special amenity only we offer and what nicer way to travel to exciting New York City than with a visual feast passing by the windows as you enjoy Afternoon Tea with scones, cream cakes and Earl Grey.

Tonight is our special Welcome dinner at le Grand Café. (D)

Day 3
Today is a magical day with all day free to explore and enjoy Montreal, as you like, at your own pace. We have intentionally not scheduled planned activities so this would be a fine day to visit towering Mount Royal, or the chic residential area of Westmount or perhaps to linger over lunch in a small café on Boulevard St. Laurent. Another option for today, highly recommend is the short scenic train trip, easily done in a day, to Ottawa and back, aboard Via Rail. Ottawa is a treat with Rideau Hall, Parliament Hill and the National Art Gallery and for those interested, the tour manager will offer an optional day trip to Ottawa, leaving in the morning and returning in the evening. (L)

Day 4
We depart Montreal this morning aboard VIA Rail for the scenic ride east to glorious picture perfect Quebec City, a jewel and a UNESCO World Heritage site. We have included a complete sightseeing tour featuring lovely Montmorency Falls, the famed Cidatel and the old town. Our hotel, the Loews le Concorde is situated on the chic Grande Allee, the Champs Elysee of Quebec City. We have left this evening free for you to enjoy this wonderful city. (L)

Next, a visit to "A Special Place" retail outlet for Cabot Cheese, Vermont Teddy Bears, Lake Champlain Chocolates and Danforth Pewter. Next, it's time to get sweetened up with a tour and samples of Lake Champlain Chocolates. Watch chocolates being made and take in the aromas and tastes. We arrive at the Doubletree at approximately 4:30 pm. Later tonight, a special welcome to Vermont dinner at the magical Inn at Essex, one of the highest rated restaurants in New England. (B, D)

Day 6
We depart the hotel after breakfast this morning on a breathtaking tour of Vermont during its beautiful foliage season. You'll travel through the pristine Green Mountains with your first stop at the Cold Hollow Cider Mill with its mouth-watering aroma of fresh-baked cider donuts and watch apple cider being made. The Cider Mill gift shop offers a fine collection of Vermont specialty food products, crafts and wines.

On your way into the Village of Stowe, you'll pass Vermont farms, antique homes, and rolling hills ablaze with the colors of autumn. Stowe's Main Street has kept its turn-of-the-century look, while being home to popular galleries, antique shops and craft stores. Enjoy lunch on-your-own while you stroll through the village.

On the way back to Burlington, a must-stop is the Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream Factory, for a scoop of Vermont's Finest-a perfectly sweet ending to your day. You'll return to your hotel with time to relax and refresh before dinner on-your-own. (B, AT)

Day 7
Following breakfast in the hotel, we board the Champlain Flyer for a train ride along some of the most beautiful country imaginable over the Vermont Railroad. You travel south along Lake Champlain that is highlighted with the reflecting fall colors of orange and gold. We disembark the train at the Shelburne Museum. Discover treasures from America's past at the Shelburne Museum, described as one of the world's great museums of American folk art, artifacts and architecture. See the 220-foot side-wheel steamboat, the Ticonderoga that is a National Historic Landmark.

After lunch, a tour at the Magic Hat Brewery is a perfect thirst quenched. Discover the place where the ancient ritual of brewing is nothing short of magic. Tour the plant, learn the history of brewing, sample 15 of the best tasting beers on the planet and wander through the signature gift shop.
