African Explorer

For more than 20 years travelers have been discovering the most beautiful destinations in Southern Africa in comfort with this train. Starting with selected departures in 2015, the African Explorer will run on unique rail routes between Cape Town, Windhoek, Maputo and Victoria Falls. The train covers long distances overnight, while guests are slumbering in their private compartments. During the day there is ample time for excursions to famous as well as lesser known destinations, for encounters with the checkered history of the countries traveled and last, but not least, for extensive game drives.

As a rolling hotel, the African Explorer features sleeping compartments for one or two guests in three classes as well as a restaurant car and a bar waggon. The train also carries air-conditioned mini-vans seating a maximum of 12 guests each for the daily excursions.

Antelope: The 14 compartments of the Antelope category feature two lower beds, a folding table with an integrated sink below, a small hanging locker, a safe and a power outlet (220 V). The single compartments feature one lower bed. Each of the two wagons of this category has 5 double and 2 single compartments, a shower and 2 toilets.

Elephant: In addition to the appointments of the Antelope category, there is a private shower, a toilet and air-conditioning in the compartments of the Elephant category. The compartments feature 2 beds in L-shape (one lower and one upper bed, overlapping), 2 lower side-by-side twin beds or a double bed. There are altogether 6 wagons of this category with 5 compartments each.

Leopard: The compartments of the Leopard category feature a small sitting area in addition to the appointments of the Elephant category. There are 2 wagons of this category with 3 compartments each.
