This resort town is ideally situated in the Bernese Oberland and makes the perfect base for adventures, including a cable car ride to the summit of the Schilthorn and a train trip to the Top of Europe on the Jungfrau Railway.
The one and only Glacier Express whisks you through the Alps to your next incredible destination, Chur. Most connections and information was well done. However, our Bernina tickets were never sent with our original packet and we had to get them from the emergency weekend phone number provided by the company. It all worked out, after a little panic. We were also directed to the wrong station in Interlaken. We were there for several days and our directions were out of Interlochen east, when our hotel was actually at a Interlaken in West, we enjoyed the train travel, and all the connections were easy to follow. The hotels were conveniently located near the stations. The least favorite train was the glacial express . We were unaware that it was actually a luxury restaurant on rails. If we have had more information about what that experience would have been like, we would not have brought our own food, and we might have done the whole restaurant experience. The Bernina express was amazing ! All the transitions for the Jungfrau, and that Schilthorn were very easy.

I do think that the trip was a good value for the money. We stayed at nice hotels, the itinerary was very detailed and made the traveling easier. We skipped taking the Bernia Express to Tirano, which sounded beautiful, but we did not feel like being on a train for 8 hours after being on the Glacier Express the day before. So, we just walked around and explored Chur. It was too bad the train rides were back to back. The staff at Vacations by Rail were very helpful with a couple of hotel snafus we had - because I did not read the itinerary closely enough. I would take another trip with this company. I gave it 4 stars because last year we went on a small group tour to Ireland and it was awesome. The tour guides were so informative and funny and the 11 of us had good energy. That trip will be a hard bar to surpass.
