Amtrak Acela
The Northeast Corridor is home to some of the United States'
influential cities - metropolises where the country's story was
penned and history and culture continue to evolve today. In this
part of the nation, hustle and bustle is a way of life, and
Amtrak's Acela offers a way to slow down, figuratively, and soak up
urban ambiance one city at a time. With multiple departures each
day and a 457-mile course between Boston and Washington, D.C., the
trains provide the ideal blend of convenience and style in one
high-speed package.
When Amtrak's Acela launched in 2000, it brought high-speed rail
travel to the United States and aptly derived its name from the
word acceleration, with the trains moving along the corridor at
speeds of up to 150 mph. This concept continues today with the
recent launch of the NextGen Acela trains, one of the newest
additions to the Amtrak fleet. Passengers step aboard the modern
carriages of Business Class and enjoy spacious seating with plenty
of legroom, outlets and free Wi-Fi for the seven-hour journey.
Upgrades to First Class are available.
While traveling from city center to city center on this
metropolitan route, passengers can purchase light meals, snacks and
drinks from Cafè Acela; however, First Class travelers enjoy
complimentary meal and drink service at their seats. The route is
built with fewer stops to maximize travel time, yet it provides
stunning city skyline views and glimpses of the Atlantic while
traveling between major stations. Connect Boston, MA, with
Providence, RI; New Haven and Stamford in Connecticut; New York
City; Newark, NJ; Philadelphia, PA; Wilmington, DE; Baltimore, MD;
and, finally, Washington, D.C. Created for commuters and perfected
for travelers, Amtak's Acela is a modern take on classic intercity
rail travel.
