Café Lafayette Dinner Train
Two hours, 20 miles, and five courses are all it takes to
transport guests back to the glory days of train travel when
exceptional onboard dining was not a treat; it was a given. The
Cafe Lafayette Dinner Train has been inspiring passengers with its
route and cuisine for over 30 years, making its first run in 1989.
Each year between early May and late October, the train winds
through the spectacular Pemigewasset River Valley, presenting New
Hampshire's White Mountains' immense beauty. The train moves at a
leisurely pace of no more than 20 miles per hour, allowing
travelers to take full advantage of the beauty that lies just
outside the windows.
A four-star experience awaits from beginning to end on this
journey. After boarding, guests are guided to their tables for
four. An old-world travel experience in which guests conversed and
got to know one another is cultivated by seating two couples
together at the same table. The tables are cloaked in white cloths
and feature gleaming silverware and china dishes. Patterned fans,
individual chocolates, and colorful flowers grace each table. No
detail is overlooked. The menu varies with the seasons, and many of
the ingredients are sourced locally.
Period music fills the air, intoxicating smells waft through the
train cars, and increasingly wondrous scenery appears at each mile
marker along the track. A ride aboard the Cafe Lafayette Dinner
Train is a delight for the senses and an experience that is not
easily forgotten.
