Conway Scenic Railroad
The White Mountains' forested peaks envelop the panoramas in
North Conway, a Mount Washington Valley destination filled with
antique charms. One such joy is the Conway Scenic Railroad, a rail
line that offers scenic and heritage rail excursions. The rail line
has transported guests through the lush North Conway region since
1974, shuttling travelers to destinations like Crawford and Barlett
and back on its roundtrip rail corridors. However, the history of
the tracks dates back over a century longer to the 1870s.
Select journeys on the Conway Scenic Railroad still take place
on the special steam engine that stole the hearts of visitors
nearly 50 years ago; however, the bulk of the rail expeditions from
North Conway utilize efficient diesel engines that glide along the
valley's standard-gauge tracks with ease. In all, there are three
spectacular routes from which to choose, two that are noted as
heritage lines and one that is scenic. The railway also offers a
seasonal winter route.
Each season brings its glory to the scenery surrounding the
Conway Scenic Railroad. In the spring and summer, the valley bursts
with new growth, rich greens, and colorful flowers. In the fall,
the foliage sets ablaze in a glow of red, yellow, and orange
leaves; the line's views, especially the Mountaineer route, are
unrivaled. Wintertime's cloak changes the landscape once more,
offering a fresh perspective on the surroundings. Discover the
unmatched beauty of New Hampshire's forests and mountains on the
Conway Scenic Railroad.
