Green Mountain Railroad
Set amongst the idyllic Green Mountains in Vermont, the Green Mountain Railroad recalls the passenger railways of yesteryear while slowly navigating stunning panoramas. Seasonal adventures and memorable dining experiences beckon on the Green Mountain Railroad. While traveling through the Okemo Valley, within sight of Lake Champlain or amidst the deeply forested peaks of the Green Mountains, travelers are immersed in the golden days of railway travel. Excursions depart from one of two stations: Burlington or Chester. Located two hours apart, these towns offer different perspectives on Vermont's beautiful scenery.
The Green Mountain Railroad operates two fleets of trains, the Green Fleet and the Silver Fleet, composed of vintage diesel engines and beautifully restored passenger carriages. The Silver Fleet is fully climate-controlled and features air conditioning in the warmer months and heat when it is cold. While most of these cars were built in the 1930s for other purposes, the Silver Fleet cars have been converted into the railway's dining cars. Today, the cars are outfitted with tables for four with sleek wooden or padded chairs. There are also comfortable lounge areas at the ends of the cars. The Green Fleet is mainly used for scenic excursions and includes heat during the cooler months. Each historic car has been lovingly restored to its former glory and includes comfortable seating with either padded bench seats or tables and chairs.
Piecing together historical routes and operating rain or shine during Vermont's most optimal sightseeing seasons, the Green Mountain Railroad is one of the best ways to experience the Green Mountain region.
