Journey Through the Clouds
Journey Through the Clouds is another highly regarded route
offered by the acclaimed Rocky Mountaineer. This addition to the
rail line's repertoire presents a new perspective on the Rockies,
traveling from Vancouver on the coast to Jasper, located in Jasper
National Park, the most extensive protected parkland in the
Canadian Rockies. In true Rocky Mountaineer fashion, the train only
travels during daylight hours, ensuring that all the natural
splendor of Western Canada is on full display during the 560-mile,
two-day route.
The train departs from Vancouver in the morning, offering
picture-perfect views of the coast and the downtown skyline as the
Rocky Mountaineer proceeds inland. Breakfast is served as the train
winds through the stunning Fraser River Valley. This first stretch
of the route is identical to the First Journey to the West's and
takes passengers across the scenic Cisco Crossing, built in the
late 1800s, and through mountain tunnels before arriving in
Kamloops later in the evening.
Spend the night soaking in the ambiance of Kamloops before
continuing on the remainder of the 274-mile journey. The next day
passengers soak in stunning views of Mount Robson, the tallest
mountain in all of the Canadian Rockies, and Yellowhead Pass, which
is beloved for its breathtaking views.
Of course, taking Rocky Mountaineer's Journey to the Clouds is not
just about getting from Vancouver to Jasper; it is about the
old-world experience of luxury train travel. Guests may select from
either SilverLeaf Service or GoldLeaf Service for their time on the
train. Each class is brimming with amenities, from endless windows
on the domed rail cars to outside observation decks and plenty of
attention from the train's hosts.
