About the tour

All aboard the storied rails of the Rocky Mountaineer for a journey into Canada's picturesque Rocky Mountains. Our journey begins in Vancouver, a coastal metropolis that boasts a thriving art scene, stunning views of both the mountains and the ocean, and sightseeing opportunities that pique the interest of nearly every traveler. We have a full day to enjoy the city before boarding our daylight-only chariot into the Rockies, the Rocky Mountaineer. The train makes an overnight stop in Kamloops, then continues through forests, canyons, mountain passes and canyons en route to Jasper. In Jasper, excursions to Maligne Lake and Spirit Island answer the call of the wild. Moving further into the Canadian Rockies, we make a stop at Columbia Icefield to explore Athabasca Glacier before arriving in Banff. This destination is a year-round hub of adventure, with all the amenities of a resort town and the beauty of one of Canada's most beloved national parks at your fingertips. Eight days have never been so memorable.

The overnight stay at Kamloops was a complete bust. We stayed at the Thompson Inn. When we arrived the toilet seat was completely broken away from the toilet (see picture). Everytime the refirigrator cycled, the TV turned on / off due to the outlet being over loaded (see picture / safety hazard). Also, there was an extension cord for the coffee pot and it "ran under" the wall (see picture / safety hazard). Also, we did not get our wake up call and the room was extremely small for two people and smelled. Also, the restaurants in the area of the Thompson Inn were a disisaster. No healthy choices, fewe choices, poor customer service, and menu. My biggest issue is that Rocky Mountaineer and VBR know of the issues with the Thompson Inn and the surrounding area and they continue to place people in this hotel (Silver Leaf package). They should place evreryone in the Double Tree (Gold Leaf package). If I was told when I signed up that the Silver Leaf package inluded staying in a substandard hotel and part of Kamploops, I would have signed up with the Gold Leaf package. COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE!!

Wonderful experience, beautiful trip. The accommodations, food, service and cleanliness were exceptional. Only downside would be the second day was a bit long (12hrs) due to stopping for other train/freight traffic.

Inadequate advance notice of trip details. Need a month in advance. Needed to know what we were exactly doing on city tour or planned activities ie where stopping and spending time versus just drive by. Also need start:stop time and drop off location for pre planning purposes. Don’t tell us once arrived about wearing safe shoes for glacier walk. Need before arrival. Train ride was very confining (only one car). No smoking for 12+ hours. Couldn’t get good pictures from train. Train food was exceptionally good but limited free drinks. Once off train (2 days), much better sightseeing experiences. Exceptional views. Kamloops hotel awful. Went several places too early in the morning and stores not open (Granville Island/Banff). Should give places to go/eat 4-8 weeks before trip so can adequately plan free time. Vancouver guide needed microphone during walking.

Vancouver was nice, so was the hotel. The services we received on the train was excellent. The hotel in Kamloops was not as expected for what we paid for, I would give you a 2 for that one. Jasper's hotel, I would give you a 0. The toxins that were our room is not acceptable, no one should even enter that room. We slept in it for 1 night figured you were totally booked for the night, my husband and I were sick everyday after being in that room. They did move us for the 2nd night, although the desk clerk was not happy about it, he was rude. Thank God Banff's hotel was better, this was the city that we were so excited to see. BUT, we weren't able to see much of the city due to being sick from the toxic room.?? Sorry, I wouldn't recommend this trip to anyone.

The trip was well planned, organized and lead by an excellent guide. Train ride was awesome with great service, food, and scenery. Second half of trip was by motor coach with an amazing driver, and some of the Rocky Moutains brilliant scenery. The group averaged 37 people who were nice and friendly. It was a trip of a lifetime.
