About the tour

One of our most popular trips through the Canadian Rockies, this 7-day journey through Canada puts gorgeous scenery at every turn. The tour begins with two days of sightseeing in Vancouver, before boarding the Rocky Mountaineer for two days of daylight-only travel alongside rivers, canyons, and forests to the beautiful destination of Lake Louise. From here, the journey continues through mountains to the resort town of Banff, which is renowned for its variety of outdoor attractions and activities and its charming downtown area. Ride the gondola to the top of Sulphur Mountain, visit the hot springs and shop the boutiques over the course of two days before your vacations concludes with a transfer to Calgary.

This itinerary is also available from Calgary to Vancouver based on your travel preference.

The food, service and ride on the Rocky Mountaineer were superb. My only criticism is that we were 2-3 hours late both nights getting off the train and to our hotels. Thus, we had no opportunity to enjoy Kamloops, and little opportunity to do anything other than walk out and see Lake Louise. That was very disappointing. The lodging accommodations were all fantastic. The motor coach transport was clean and efficient. All the service people we met were affable and efficient.

We didn't receive final travel docs until 8 days before the trip. Didn't leave time to plan for excursions since we were unsure of the hotels. Also train did not run for 1 day because of rail strike. The bus ride instead of the train was not fun and not the experience we paid for.

Over all, this was an excellent experience. The biggest deviation from the excellent experience was the hotel selected in Kamloops. It would have been better to select the any of the other 6 or 8 across the street. The Coast is old, tired and many amenities (like the jacuzzi) were broken. The portion that was Rocky Mountaineer was impeccably managed, but once handed off to Vacations by rail, there was no continuity. All in all, an excellent experience with just a few rough edges. The Gold Leaf upgrade is absolutely worth it.

We did not receive our itinerary until 8 days before departure which made it difficult to plan excursions. Our trip was interrupted by the Canadian rail strike. We were transported by bus from Kamloops to Lake Louise instead of by Gold Leaf service on the Rocky Mountaineer.

I loved the time on the Rocky Mountaineer. We were onboard two days for several hrs and enjoyed every minute. The scenery was beautiful, the train comfortable, and we were never thirsty or hungry, food and drink was offered often, breakfast and lunch served in the dining car and drinks and "nibbles" offered while in our seats. I would definitely recommend this trip.
