About the tour

One of our most popular trips through the Canadian Rockies, this 7-day journey through Canada puts gorgeous scenery at every turn. The tour begins with two days of sightseeing in Vancouver, before boarding the Rocky Mountaineer for two days of daylight-only travel alongside rivers, canyons, and forests to the beautiful destination of Lake Louise. From here, the journey continues through mountains to the resort town of Banff, which is renowned for its variety of outdoor attractions and activities and its charming downtown area. Ride the gondola to the top of Sulphur Mountain, visit the hot springs and shop the boutiques over the course of two days before your vacations concludes with a transfer to Calgary.

This itinerary is also available from Calgary to Vancouver based on your travel preference.

The Rocky Mountaineer from Vancouver to Banff was beyond wonderful. Totally met our expectations. Superb service and food. Staff could not have been nicer. Everything scheduled perfectly and carried out very well. We'd recommend.

Beautiful trip! Train staff was attentive and knowledgeable. Pricey, but different levels of the tour are available. We decided to go full luxury and our decision to stay at the Fairmont hotels was well worth it, especially in Banff. The food on the train was plentiful and good. While others have complained about the speed of the train, it allowed all to fully enjoy the spectacular mountain views. Even the day trip tours were good. I also heard about train snafus and delays, but that is out of the control of the Rocky Mountaineer and Vacations by Rail make that possibility clear when you sign up. Our experience was fantastic!

This is overall a fine vacation package. The Vancouver and Banff hotels were fabulous, Banff being the crown jewel. The 2-day rail trip was a wonderful experience with superb staff service, including tour-guide knowledge of the terrain, and fine food. Guests should be notified that there is no ready transportation to see Lake Louise if you are not housed at the one hotel on the lake. You will need to make your own way with limited transport options in the morning hours provided. Also, the "departure time" listed on your voucher for the day tour of Banff may not correspond to when your bus actually shows up (in our case, the half-hour difference cost us most of our breakfast buffet that day). Otherwise, the package offered by VBR is a very special experience that affords personal flexibility alongside guided tour portions. Well worthwhile!

Train ride was superior ! The staff ,food and scenery were ‘top notch’! However we found out at the last minute that we were not being picked up at our Vancouver hotel for transport to the train station Instead us 80 rear olds had to drag our suitcases for 4 blocks at 6:30 AM to a different hotel for pickup ! Despite having a voucher for the Lake Louise Hotel we were told on arrival that our room had been canceled in June . We ended up being provided with one room for 2 couples which we had to pay for!! Although I had expressed a desire to the agent that I was looking forward to seeing the lake our hotel was no where near the lake and no transportation was available ! - very disappointing !
