You'll make your way through tunnels and over bridges, with deep ravines below you and picturesque waterfalls by your window. Enjoy the rugged landscape of the Engadine Valley, before this historic route takes you through the Albula Tunnel and over the Bernina Pass. Admire glaciers and alpine lakes before descending towards Poschiavo, in the Italian-speaking region of Switzerland. Spiral round the corkscrew Brusio Viaduct and cross into Italy. This spectacular journey ends in Tirano, where the return journey begins back to St Moritz for your second night in your chosen hotel.

Today you'll board the magnificent Glacier Express for a breathtaking journey through Switzerland's alpine landscape. Your journey begins with a climb up to the winter ski resort of Andermatt, and continues its climb upwards into the snow-capped mountains. The train reaches the journey's highest point before descending along the beautiful Rhône Valley at a slow and steady pace. Known as 'the Slowest Express Train in the World', the Glacier Express carries you through classic Swiss scenes of meadows and turquoise river gorges, before arriving in the car-free town of Zermatt in the early evening. On arrival in Zermatt, you'll transfer to your chosen hotel.

Enjoy a day in Zermatt, an authentic Swiss mountain village, with breathtaking views of the iconic Matterhorn. Board the heritage Gornergrat Mountain Railroad for an included excursion high into the peaks. This cogwheel train has transported passengers to an altitude of more than 10,100 feet since 1898. When you reach the Gornergrat platform the view is dominated by the magnificent Matterhorn, but there are actually 29 peaks over 13,000 feet that form a breathtaking mountain panorama.

Returning to Zermatt, take a walk around the pretty village center, where you'll find charming lanes of timbered chalets, plus many restaurants, cafes and bars. Alternatively, choose from of the optional excursions below which are bookable at a supplement.

Your luxurious St Moritz to the Matterhorn tour concludes today and you are free to make your way from Zermatt to the airport for your flight home.
