Board Amtrak's Southwest Chief and prepare for your afternoon departure for Flagstaff, Arizona. Make the most of your time on the train, meeting your fellow travelers and ensuring a visit to the Sightseer Lounge with its floor-to-ceiling windows offering impressive views of the picture-perfect scenery passing before you. We enjoyed our trip to the Grand Canyon with Vacation By Rails. It was easy to book and very organized. We upgraded to a bedroom sleeper and was very happy with it. The meals in the dining car were very good and came along with the upgrade. Looking forward to our next trip

Amtrak was great! Complaint was the winding narrow stairs getting to our coach seats with our carry on luggage. When booking, make sure consumer understands that you no longer send printed materials ...(we did not have a printer) and would need to use your cell phone (if you have one that works well)! Overall we loved our trip by rail!!

The trip was delayed by at least 5 hours getting to Williams Arizona. Long tiring train trip that was filled with rough rails, dirty bathroom, and shower. The bathroom had paper towels all over the floor, with the toilet bowl not getting cleaned the entire trip. The waiter and waitress in the dining room was rude, and at one point I felt that Michael was racial unjust to one lady who appeared to be of American Indian decent, and a gentleman who was of Mexican decent. All they wanted to know how much was breakfast, and he barked at them, insisting they set at the same table, even though they didn't know each other, there were many empty tables. they told you, you know what's on the menu, no changes, what do you want. Our cabin man, Daniel, stayed in his room most of the time. I thought he could have cleaned the bathroom. The food was excellent, we did tip everyone, but honestly, for the price and the service we received, it was totally overpriced. Train was old, and needed remodeled, and cleaned. The dining staff also was aggravated that we walked thru the dining car to get to the observation car. I would not recommend the train, Chief or Amtrak to anyone, not worth the discomfort that was given to our party of 4. We were totally disrespected on both trains to and from Chicago/Williams.
