Board Amtrak's Southwest Chief and prepare for your journey to Flagstaff, Arizona. Board the Grand Canyon Railway train for a 9:30 am departure to the South Rim of the Canyon. This historic train was built more than a century ago to transport ore in the Wild West. Day 3 - Grand Canyon at Leisure

Spend the morning exploring the South Rim on your own or take another guided tour. There are several historical buildings worth visiting including Buckey O'Neill's Cabin, the longest continually standing structure in the South Rim, or Desert View Watchtower with one of the few views of the bottom of the Canyon and the Colorado River. Board the Grand Canyon Railway southbound to Williams at 3:30 pm. Dinner this evening is at the Fred Harvey Restaurant. Overnight Williams.

Unfortunately, we never took the trip. We wanted to re-schedule because my wife was in great pain in her knees the day before it was scheduled. But we were not allowed to reschedule. The only option we were given was to cancel our trip. So, we lost all our money, almost $5,000. Please do not contact us again as we will never deal with Vacations by Rail in the future. I had a wonderful time. The train staff were all friendly and professional. The meal in the dining car was amazing. My luggage was always well taken care of. The roomette & restrooms were clean.

Very surprised at how easily I slept. Quickly adapted to sleeping car "bumps" (few) and sideways rolling (slight). Only complaint would be announcement speakers (scratchy, muffled, too loud or too weak to understand).
