The tour itself was well rounded but there are some things I would change. An extra day in York, eliminate the Jacobite steam train and add another stop. Dealing with the luggage on the train was a deficit. The men in the group were very helpful with this problem. Having the luggage sent forward to the hotel was much better. The hotels were nice, with the one in Glasgow having the best bathrooms. We had no issue with the lack of twin beds in a few locations. The breakfasts were the same except for Mallaig where the dinner and breakfast were 5 stars. Jeannette Croft was a 5 star guide, always following up with us that everything was ok and working very minute to satisfy any question. She was personable and very sweet. All the guides were excellent except for the lady in Edinburgh who was very soft spoken and no one could hear anything she said. My travel partner arranged for us to visit HMS Britannia which would be a great addition to the tour.

Our tour director was top notch. Couldn't be happier with her She did her best to help everyone enjoy the tour and established some good friends along the way. However that's where the commendable part ends. The hotel accommodations in several cities were below 4 star hotels. We had to contend with hotels to give us the slightest upgrade to a room that offered a queen or king size bed. A rail tour like this for this price should ALWAYS provide first class rail cars. The train from Fort William to Glasgow in particular was very long, filthy, crowded, no working bathroom and no provision for food or drink on board. VBR, for the money we paid, you should do better than this!

We would highly recommend this tour. It touched on many of the places we have always wanted to visit. Our tour manager, Jeannette Croft, was a key to the tours success. She was friendly, professional, and always went the extra mile.

We've seen some great places on this tour. I wish we would have had more time to explore Edinburgh. We didn't get a chance to see Glascow, we got there late and had to leave around 11 am so that city should not have been counted on the tour. It was basically a stop to sleep before moving on in the morning. I think the tour company should have had baggage transfers throughout the whole tour. People were struggling up stairs and escalators with their luggage and someone fell. A couple of the hotels did not seem like 4 star hotels. At Raddisson Blu, the twin beds were small and the room was small, in some rooms you had to go up 4 steps to get to the bathroom. Not so good for seniors, especially in the middle of the night. I want to say that our tour guide, Jeanette was the best. She made everything worthwhile and went out of her way to make sure everybody was taken care of. I would give her 6 stars. She was just wonderful!

The Grand Tour of the UK included many interesting sights and informative day tours. It was certainly a worthwhile experience, and our Tour Manager was well-informed and very helpful. We did have some problems with baggage handling and lodging, but after the tour I contacted the Vacations By Rail Customer Service Manager and was able to receive appropriate compensation for the problems we encountered. I was glad to see that Vacations By Rail was responsive to our complaint.

The trip was fine. Trying to get an itinerary or any information about the trip prior to going (and well after paying IN FULL) was TERRIBLE. If I've paid a lot of money for a trip, I should at least be able to get the CORRECT ITINERARY at the time of payment or soon after! We had to wait until just days before the trip to get any details! UNACCEPTABLE!
