The United Kingdom & Ireland Vacations

UK & Ireland Tours

Discover the legendary vistas and mesmerizing tales that can only be found in lands as old as the British Isles by embarking on thoughtfully crafted tours of UK and Ireland. Five countries, each distinct in their traditions and landscapes, beckon on these train tours and rail and sail vacations. Although together England, Wales, Scotland, North Ireland, and the Republic of Ireland are less than half the size of Texas, the countries' multifaceted offerings and layers of culture offer endless chances to explore.

Britain and Ireland tour packages that begin in England have so many delightful cities from which to choose. Without a doubt, London is one of the pinnacle cities of Western Europe, with its posh atmosphere and eclectic offerings. From the Tower of London, Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, and Tower Bridge to Hyde Park, Piccadilly Circus, and St. Paul's Cathedral, there is no shortage of highlights to capture visitors' attention. Venturing out of London, tour Bath, with its famous hot springs, or York, home to 2,000-year-old artifacts dating back to the Romans. Travel packages may showcase one of the wonders of the world, Stonehenge, or present history that spans centuries at castles such as Bamburgh Castle on the country's northeast coast. Traversing between destinations could not be more convenient, thanks to a well-connected network of local and scenic rail lines. Travelers may also take a train even further north into Scotland, where the Scottish Highlands' natural splendors are simply unmatched. Delight at heather moors, vast lochs, and rolling mountains while exploring the charming destinations of the Highlands - locales where castles dot the landscape, and wild expanses can be seen from miles around. Scotland is also home to well-known cities, including Edinburgh, and countless distilleries producing Scotch Whisky for centuries. Discovering the intricacies of the Scottish landscape by train is one of the great joys of traveling here, and the railways are certainly abundant. Favorites include the Kyle Line, the West Highland Line, and the one and only Royal Scotsman. Connecting one of these train trips with a ferry ride across the Irish Sea opens even more possibilities with British Isles tours, offering the key to North Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, both of which brim with adventure. Gaze upon dramatic coasts and famed natural points of interest, including the Cliffs of Moher and Giant's Causeway. Marvel at the remnants of the past at Ireland's ancient fortresses, or meander through cities where modern and historical features coexist. A trip to England, Ireland, and Scotland is more than just an experience to remember; it is the experience of a lifetime.

“Interesting train tour of the United Kingdom. We had 24 people on our tour and several were elderly. We were expected to schlep our luggage from the train station to our hotels often 2-4 blocks away. All breakfasts and some dinners included. In Edinburgh, a visit to Edinburgh Castle wasn't included and by the time we got there, tickets were sold out. Also in Bath, ticket to the Roman Baths weren't included (why would you visit Bath if you weren't going to visit the baths?) Tour guide informative but sometimes had to check where the hotel/restaurant was located. Hotels generally pretty good.

“Tours set up by Vacations by Rail had expert guides who provided fun and educational tours, Walking Tour; Secrets of the Royal Mile, Bus; Lochness and Outlander tour, Bus; Isle of Skye tour was cancelled due to bus speaker failure, Bus; St Andrews and fishing villages. All (not cancelled) were worth the price in our opinion but not without some issues. Specifically the Secrets of the Royal Mile walking tour only included the tour of the Edinburgh Castle for an extra fee, the St Andrews tour was scheduled in a large bus which was unable to go down streets normally used to view more of locations and was also 2 hours shorter than scheduled so we were unable to do some of things we wanted to do. Overall we did enjoy them but be aware that some of them are long trips and if your vehicle is full, it can feel a little cramped. My travel backpack was too large to fit in the overhead storage and made sitting in our seats even more cramped.

Best of London & Paris by Rail

“I enjoyed this trip overall. There are some things that should be corrected by the company. It would be nice to have the final itinerary sooner to allow for better planning. Also, a welcome meal and a farewell at the hotels should be enough. The other two meals took away from free time and a chance to explore.

“Too much Ireland, and not enough Scotland. Two days on the bus, wandering along the Irish coast -- awful! The scenery was beautiful, but not great enough to tolerate so many hours at 30 MPH twisting around the hills and making people car sick.
