This river cruise was excellent!! Getting from Munich to Passau required additional planning to ensure we reached the departure on time. Staying in Munich for one night on both ends of the trip is highly recommended to ensure flight connections are not an issue. Our tour directors and ship crew were excellent. We would highly recommend this river cruise.

The river cruise was wonderful and the tour director was also very helpful and cheerful. In fact he gave me some anti-acid on the ship, since we were sailing and no access to stores or pharmacy. But Vacations By Rail is very disorganized, does not give you sufficient information and thy do not have a 24/7 telephone number to help you when there is a problem, while you are on the way to your cruise. We were almost left behind, because I could not get hold of anyone. After we spent out of pocket funds to get to the ship and we boarded in a stressful condition, we found out that the ship and the cruise director has phone number which could be easily given to the passengers a week before included with the rail tickets to the port and with the info and picture of the cruise director on the email. I had to file a claim for our travel insurance and would not recommend Vacations By Rail. Find another company to do your river cruise.

This River cruise was the perfect balance of adventures and relaxation. The tour guides were knowledgeable and provided a delightful overview of their cities history ( both good and bad). The ship was perfect in every way, but the food served on board made the experience extra special. All meals were outstanding!

Overall a great river cruise. Budapest night cruise was a highlight. Linz was a disappointment, maybe more time in Vienna. Boat, crew and service were spectacular. Instructions on rail trip to Passau were insufficient. Thank god for Kevin Childs, who emailed me complete directions from airport arrival to ship boarding. Kate is a go getter, but her heavy British slur is difficult for us Americans to understand. Next time have Kevin handle the announcements. Will recommend to friends and family.

I have a walking disability. Well in advance I emailed Vacations By Rail asking if planned activities involved walking or were bus/trolly tours of cities on the Danube. They did not respond. Once the tour began, the tour directors described excursions as easy or more challenging walks. Easy is relative and walking more than a block is very difficult for me. I was not able to do much of the land excursions. I'm a musician and asked about bringing an instrument so I could practice as the others toured. Because I didn't receive a response, I did not pack an expensive musical instrument. VBR did send a positive response about bringing an instrument, but not until about an hour before the tour began. It felt more like a cruel joke than a response. The room was fine, the food was fine, and views from the impressive and comfortable ship and onboard social activities were fine. I realize I was a special case, but advance communication would have made a great difference in my experience.

I enjoyed the trip, but the tour guide, Kate, was less than helpful when told about the sickness of a passenger. She just said she would have to get her own doctor. Kevin, however, showed concern and checked on the passenger. We also paid an additional amount for a balcony that was completely blocked by locks or other ships about half of the cruise. The food and the rest of the staff were exceptional.
