Glacier Discovery
A showcase of coastal Alaska's majesty, the Glacier Discovery
presents wonderful scenes of Chugach State Park, the Turnagain Arm,
and endless mountains and glaciers. The train follows a round-trip
route between Anchorage and Grandview, departing in the morning and
returning in the evening. As one of the Alaska Railroad's seasonal
trains, the Glacier Discovery makes its passage only during the
summer months - embarking on its first run of the season in May and
concluding in September. Though similar to the itinerary of the
Coastal Classic train, this train makes more stops along the
way.
Anchorage is the beginning depot for this journey, and from
here, the train follows a 50-mile stretch of track along the
Turnagain Arm. Stunning mountain ranges frame the blue water, and
eagles can be seen soaring overhead.
For the course of the journey, travelers are delighted by the
views presented in Adventure Class. This service class offers
comfortable seating in train cars lined with large, panoramic
windows. Guests are welcome to roam between train cars for the
course of the journey and purchase à la carte food and refreshments
during their ride in the onboard Wilderness Cafe. Baggage service
is available in Anchorage, and the train cars are wheelchair
accessible. With departures daily during the summer season, seeing
Alaska's impressive landscapes and wildlife has never been
easier.
