Blue Train

Distinctive sapphire-blue carriages weave through the ever-changing beauty of the South African landscape on each journey aboard the iconic Blue Train. More than 100 years of history guide the way as the train travels between Cape Town and Pretoria - a trip that can be traced to the discovery of diamonds and gold in South Africa before the turn of the 19th century. The Blue Train as it is now known has rolled through the landscape for nearly 80 years, with each departure harking to the old-world glamour of train travel.

From gourmet dining experiences with included South African wines from boutique vineyards to five-star service around the clock, each moment on the Blue Train is one to savor. Indulge in the views, the company of like-minded travelers and traditional high tea in the Lounge Car, or watch the passing views from the panoramic windows lining both sides of the observation car. As evening falls, there is no better place to unwind with a cigar, games or the top-shelf beverage of your choosing than the Club Car. Follow a storied route surrounded by the pinnacle of elegance on the Blue Train.

The Blue Train's stunning route through South Africa

Three days and two nights of astounding scenery guide the way for the Blue Train's signature route between Pretoria and Cape Town or vice versa, depending on your travel preferences. Covering nearly 1,000 miles, this journey presents the great contrasts of the South African landscape and weaves past mountains, vineyards and wide-open expanses. On the second day, the route pauses in Kimberley, where guests are invited to disembark and explore the region's diamond-mining past before continuing to the final destination.

In addition to the standard journey, the Blue Train offers an exclusive route that departs once a year, connecting Pretoria and Kruger Park. Arriving in Kruger on the second day, guests are treated to two game drives and enjoy the train's amenities between their animal-spotting experiences. Whether enjoying this annual event or traveling on the perfected, regularly scheduled route, the elegant Blue Train provides a once-in-a-lifetime window into South Africa.
