“Everything was decent. The weather didn't cooperate with us for this trip so we did miss out on a lot of the train side of our great rail journey. This was my first time booking this type of trip and while I think it was a good experience I have decided that I prefer a more leisurely vacation with a less structured itinerary.

“The Grand Tour of the UK included many interesting sights and informative day tours. It was certainly a worthwhile experience, and our Tour Manager was well-informed and very helpful. We did have some problems with baggage handling and lodging, but after the tour I contacted the Vacations By Rail Customer Service Manager and was able to receive appropriate compensation for the problems we encountered. I was glad to see that Vacations By Rail was responsive to our complaint.

“Great tour guide. Very flexible travel - weather permitting. It was fun although I thought we would be sleeping on a train and did not realize it was an out and back in adventure every day. Hotel was nice, their food was average. Tea magnificent and staff very accommodating.

“Our trip was a wonderful experience. Switzerland is beautiful and traveling by train was so convenient and comfortable. The hotels we stayed at were also comfortable and well appointed. Our tour manager, Julia Denny was great! She went above and beyond in getting us around and also with assistance in solving a personal issue we had. The only disappointment of the trip was having to drag our luggage from train stations to hotels and back, at multiple stops. VBR needs to change this!

“Ireland is beautiful and much of it is rural, so seeing it by train is not realistic. Much of the trip was spent on a coach to really see the gorgeous countryside. While we had a excellent bus driver, our tour director, though nice, had not traveled in Ireland and didn’t offer a lot of information. However, most of our meals were covered on the tour, which was unexpected. The hotels were clean and improved as the travel progressed. I think the tour guide could have done a better job with communicating by using the app that we downloaded for the journey. Overall, a memorable trip.

“I enjoyed this trip overall. There are some things that should be corrected by the company. It would be nice to have the final itinerary sooner to allow for better planning. Also, a welcome meal and a farewell at the hotels should be enough. The other two meals took away from free time and a chance to explore.
