Probably your best chance for seeing the Aurora in Alaska. Bettles was comfortable and the staff friendly. The train is a great way to see the landscape without having to drive. The Hilton in Anchorage is fine and Pikes in Fairbanks was comfortable and right on a river. Very nice trip.

The trip from NYC to Bettles, AK was long but it was well worth it. The train ride was long but there was so much to see, so time just flew. The sky was clear and Denali Peak showed herself a bit for us. We were able to see the Aurora and man what a light show! Everyone at the Lodge was amazing! Eric, Lisa, and Rani are the best! Shout out to Krista from the Gates of the Arctic Visitor Center. We learned a lot from her. Def stop by if you're in Bettles. Met awesome people from HOT-lanta while we were at Bettles! The trip was def worth it.

It was a LOT of travel for us to get to Bettles Lodge, coming from the US East Coast, but it was worth it! The hospitality of the Lodge staff was outstanding and the food was great! We were blessed to have perfectly clear skies during the train ride from Anchorage to Fairbanks, although our nights in Bettles were mostly cloudy. We did, however, get a glimpse of some aurora borealis along with some amazing stars! Since it hadn't snowed much yet by the end of October, we weren't able to do the sled dog ride, so if you plan to go to Bettles for that definitely go later into the winter after much snow has fallen!
