The adventure was fun. Our tour guide was the best part of the trip. Patti Thompson was excellent as was Victor - the bus driver. Cannot honestly rate this trip as the trip had to be changed due to weather related issues. The changes were made to try to keep this trip as good as possible. Disappointment was not anything that vacations by rail could have anticipated or prevented. Vacations by bus was the better title for this trip - there was only one adventure on a train. We are considering trying another trip but will do more research prior to making a commitment tips that would have been nice before the trip would have been - all guides expect tips - there are several throughout the trip. A lot of time is centered around meals - if you don't eat 3 meals / day; you will be disappointed at the amount of time allotted for meals.

This was an amazing adventure! Vacations by Rail had to have a Plan B for the last leg of our trip because of hurricane damage in Asheville; their alternative plans were excellent! Our tour guide, Mark Jacobson, could not have done a more superb job. He gave us so much information and history during our travels, and quite a bit of humor along the way. Our driver, Vic, did an outstanding job of getting us to and from our destinations timely and safely. The only reason I didn't give five stars for the Value for Money is because I traveled solo and had to pay $1,800 more for "upgraded accommodations" at the hotels. Otherwise, it was worth every penny.

We had a great time on this trip. We especially liked that the leader gave us a chance to rest at the end of the day. He also watched out for us.

It was a very good vacation. However, I thought it could perhaps been a bit shorter.
