First, I want to say all of the train staff were great including my room attendants, dining room servers, and the lower lounge food and drink attendant. I would say the only issue was the PA system not working a lot of the time. Other than that, the ride was a wonderful experience for me.

The Amtrak roomette on the Lakeshoe Limited was cleanable. The roomette on the California Zephyr was dirty with grease, grime, dust and rust readily seen and somewhat removable, but not cleanable. I traveled with a group and each room was the same. When we voiced our concerns to the Zephyr attendant and ask him to look at the rooms, we were told they get cleaned in Emeryville. He vacuumed the crumbs and dirt tracks from the floors but did not have attachments to vacuum between the chairs and bed corners. So we used all the wipes we had and resorted to the train paper wipes and hall sanitizer. It was taking so long with continuous dirt on each wipe that we decided to use large towels thinking the cleanup would go faster (see two towels below). Before we could finish it was time for our assigned dinner and we were exhausted. After dinner we wiped some more and realized we were wasting our vacation. So I masked up and settled in for the evening. Needless to say, the train windows were also dirty which kept us trying to move to a clear spot for viewing and pictures. If it were not for the delicious food in the clean appearing dining room, with such friendly and accommodating staff, I would give this tour a one star rating. And lastly, forget utilizing the observation deck. The same people, food droppings, and smeared windows remained throughout each attempt to get a seat.

The sleeping cabin was way too old for the cost paid. Also, they lost our luggage and everyone we dealt with in Emeryville, from baggage people to claims personnel, were extremely rude. I would not recommend the Coast to Coast to anyone and would appreciate further correspondence with Management so they truly understand how messed up their personnel are.
