Rocky Mountaineer Train

Rocky Mountaineer

Dramatic views of lofty mountain peaks, deep forests, and pristine waterways frame the way for some of North America's most impressive rail routes on Rocky Mountaineer. The train sets a new standard for railway excellence, and as a result, has been hailed as the gold standard for train travel since its inaugural route in 1990. Meander alongside rushing rivers and past plunging gorges. Marvel at waterfalls cascading down mountainsides and sparkling glacial lakes that are so vividly blue and green that they appear otherworldly. Watch as wildlife comes into view - animals that are so at home in the untouched wilderness that they regularly wander within the eyeshot of the train's tracks. Best of all, these magnificent sights are presented in their full glory during each route, thanks to the train's commitment to traveling only during daylight hours and to moving at a leisurely pace that averages just 30 mph.

Rocky Mountaineer makes comfort a priority for each guest that steps on the train. Perhaps the most important factor in this comfort is seating. Passengers are pre-assigned plush seats for the duration of their journey. Each seat offers ample legroom and reclines for mid-route snoozes. The experience of riding aboard the train is further enhanced by the attentive hosts who offer unlimited complimentary drinks - both alcoholic and non-alcoholic - and gourmet snacks. Additionally, the host's immersive storytelling highlights the regional history and provides information about the passing flora and fauna and alerts to watch for points of interest as they approach. Travelers can choose from two elite classes of comfort on the train.

Over 2 million guests have experienced these wonders by traveling along the Rocky Mountaineer's three Canadian rail routes. Vancouver on the West Coast makes the ideal starting point for the train's courses, thanks to its easy accessibility and proximity to the beautiful mountains travelers seek.

Canada Coast to Coast

COLLEEN NELSON
5 stars
“All details and connections were perfect. Rocky Mountaineer was great pampering, tours at Banff, Lake Louise, Ice Fields, and enroute to Jasper were fantastic. Three night train on the Canadian was a good experience, as was the business class ride from Toronto to Montreal. Nice hotels and tours in both cities. Great memories if a trip of a lifetime.

“We had a great time! We were one of the youngest couples on the train in our car but the crew made us feel very welcomed. It was nice to sit back and relax and take in the scenery and not have to rush! Our parents loved our pictures and stories from our trip they are planning theirs! Maneli, Ema and Marina were amazing hosts!!!

“Unfortunately I developed altitude sickness in my stay in Denver and had a very hard time enjoying my trip to the fullest. I ended up eating grapes and crackers instead of the delicious meals that were prepared for me. My friend thought we moved to slowly and I had to explain to here it was a sightseeing train. I loved the ride. Hopefully I will be able to take this trip again in the future and do a gradual climb before the journey. Thank you.

“Wonderful experience, beautiful trip. The accommodations, food, service and cleanliness were exceptional. Only downside would be the second day was a bit long (12hrs) due to stopping for other train/freight traffic.

Classes of Service

Regardless of the route you choose, passengers enjoy an exciting onboard experience filled with delights for all the senses. Canada's warmest seasons are presented from the rails, as Rocky Mountaineer travels the rails between mid-April and mid-October annually. The train's fleet of passenger cars features endless windows from which to take in the passing scenery's views and changing seasons. Additionally, guests can gaze upon the surroundings from the train's open-air viewing platforms.

GoldLeaf Service

Twenty double-decker domed-glass train cars provide elite luxury for GoldLeaf Service passengers. These train cars have an upper-level seating area surrounded by windows and a lower-level dining room, complete with crisp linens and panoramic windows, so you do not miss any of the views while dining. GoldLeaf guests have access to an exclusive large open-air viewing platform and are well cared for by three to four hosts and a full culinary team.

SilverLeaf Service

There are a total of 16 SilverLeaf train cars on Rocky Mountaineer, each of which is a single-level domed car topped with panoramic windows. Guests are served delicious chef-prepared meals at their seats by the two SilverLeaf hosts and one culinary team member.

Dining Experience

The dining experience on Rocky Mountaineer is highly regarded for its gourmet-quality cuisine and imaginative, locally inspired menus. Each meal is prepared by the onboard chef using locally sourced ingredients. Breakfast may include regionally produced Canadian cheeses in an omelet or Montreal-style smoked beef showcased in eggs benedict. For lunch, perhaps try locally caught Pacific salmon, roasted Fraser Valley chicken, or braised short ribs from Alberta. The skill and care of a restaurant kitchen go into each course. Enjoy drink pairings and locally produced wines upon request.

Exceptional service, accommodations, and routes have led to numerous accolades for Rocky Mountaineer. The World Travel Awards recently recognized the train as the World's Leading Travel Experience By Train in 2020 and as Lonely Planet's Best Sustainable Train for 2021.

Thanks to its success in the Canadian Rockies, this rail line has expanded its offerings to the United States. Beginning in 2021, Rocky Mountaineer will embark on its maiden voyage through the Colorado Rockies on its brand-new route, Rockies to the Red Rocks. This two-day journey travels from Denver to Glenwood Springs in Colorado, then crosses the border into Utah, arriving in Moab. All the same luxury guests have come to associate with the brand is available to U.S. travelers, and they too can settle in for a mountainous adventure that will top their travel memories for years to come.
