Day 1 - VancouverArrive in Vancouver and spend time exploring this scenic city on your own. Overnight in Vancouver.
Day 2 - Vancouver to KamloopsBoard the Rocky Mountaineer train at the Vancouver Station this morning. Travel from the coastal city of Vancouver to Kamloops, in the heart of British Columbia’s interior. On today’s journey you will see dramatic changes in scenery, from the lush green fields of the Fraser Valley, through forests and winding river canyons surrounded by the peaks of the Coast and Cascade Mountains, to the desert-like environment of the BC Interior. Highlights include the rushing waters of Hell’s Gate in the Fraser Canyon and the steep slopes and rock sheds along the Thompson River. Breakfast & lunch included onboard. Your day concludes as the Rocky Mountaineer travels along the shores of Kamloops Lake into Kamloops. Spend the evening exploring the city or relaxing in your hotel room. All hotels in Kamloops are of moderate standard: your hotel will be assigned post-booking. (B, L)
Day 3 - Kamloops to KananaskisBoard the Rocky Mountaineer train at the Kamloops Station this morning to continue your journey to the mighty Canadian Rockies and the province of Alberta. Once again you will be surrounded by dramatic scenery as you follow across ranch lands, along rocky lakeshores, over high mountain passes and through the remarkable tunnels that form part of the rich rail history of the Canadian Rockies. Todays’ highlights include Craigellachie where the last spike of the Canadian Pacific Railway was driven, the climb over the Rogers Pass, Kicking Horse Canyon, the Spiral Tunnels, and of courses the glaciers snow-capped peaks of the Canadian Rockies. Breakfast and lunch served onboard the train. On arrival in Banff, collect your rental car and in 45 minutes, you will arrive at the Canadian Rockies best kept secret… Kananaskis. (B, L)
Day 4 - At Leisure in KananaskisToday is yours to enjoy one of Alberta’s biggest recreational playgrounds. There are plenty of paved pathways for easy hiking, or rugged trails for the more adventurous. Cycle through the evergreen valleys past glacial streams on many kilometers of paved trails. For the avid Fisherman, hike into the high Alpine Lake or just cast off the shores of the Kananaskis Lakes. Play the 36-hole golf course, or take a trail ride by horse through the Kananaskis Valley ending with the thrill of white water rafting on the Kananaskis River. However you decide to spend your day, this unspoiled area of pristine wilderness has everything to offer to reconnect you with nature and the natural beauty of the Canadian Rockies. Overnight in Kananaskis.
Day 5 - Kananaskis to Lake LouiseOn your way to Lake Louise, stop off in Banff enjoying such sights as Bow Falls, Lake Minnewanka, Surprise Corner and the Hoodoos. Take a leisurely drive along the Bow Johnston Canyon where you can take an easy 20 minute stroll to the lower falls or a moderate 45 minute trek to the spectacular upper waterfalls. Overnight in Lake Louise.
Day 6 - Lake Louise to CalgaryEnjoy a morning lakeshore stroll around Lake Louise, or for the more adventurous, a hike up to Lady Agnes Tea House (1-2 hours one way). This afternoon begin your journey to Calgary through beautiful Kananaskis Country and the ranching regions of Alberta before arriving in Calgary. Enjoy admission to the Calgary Tower. Overnight in Calgary.
Day 7 - Tour EndYour vacation ends upon checkout from your Calgary hotel.
