Train Trips Across Canada

Canada Coast to Coast

Explore Canada coast to coast by train and settle in for the adventure of a lifetime. This epic train trip takes travelers from the coastal city of Vancouver across seven provinces to Halifax on the Eastern Seaboard. Select tour packages travel from east to west, as well. No matter which direction your tour follows, enjoy stunning scenery and visits to spectacular destinations as the ever-changing landscape of Canada unfolds. See Pyramid Falls and majestic mountains peaks as you travel into the Canadian Rockies. In the Rockies, rail tours pause in Jasper, a scenic alpine town that is surrounded by Jasper National Park. Your stop here may be a short layover aboard our train or a destination in your train trip itinerary. Stopping in Jasper also puts the other beloved destinations of the Canadian Rockies at your fingertips: the charming hamlet of Lake Louise and Banff National Park. Continue across the prairies to Ontario and to the metropolis of Toronto, which is just a short drive from Niagara Falls. Explore French Canada and the chic cities of Montreal and Quebec, then the train ride presses on, following the St. Lawrence River to Moncton and the Maritimes.

Traveling across Canada by train can be accomplished aboard VIA Rail's overnight and regional services, including aboard VIA Rail's Canadian, which travels from Vancouver to Toronto. This train features several levels of overnight accommodations, including Sleeper Plus Class in either semi-private berths or private cabins. Independent tour packages may also utilize Canada's acclaimed all-daylight scenic touring train, Rocky Mountaineer. Following a route from Vancouver to Jasper, this rail line features two fantastic levels of service, both of which give guests the ultimate experience as they explore the country by rail.

“This was truly one of those once-in-a-lifetime type of trips. A fantastic way to see all of Canada - from one coast to the other. The train does take 4 days to go from Vancouver to Toronto, but that's mostly because so much time is spent sitting and waiting on freight trains since they have the priority. The prestige class cabins are small, so we had to take what we needed from our luggage and check the bags. But the train was radiantly heated, so it was always comfortable, even when it was cold and snowing outside. The food onboard was excellent, and there was always several selections to choose from. The Fairmont hotels that we stayed at were excellent. Vancouver's was a taxi ride away from the train station, but was very nice. It was in the heart of downtown by the waterfront. Toronto's Fairmont was directly across from the train station, so it was super convenient, didn't even need a taxi. Montreal's Fairmont is actually over the train station, so even more convenient. All of the tours that were included hit the highlights of Toronto and Montreal and were super convenient as we were either picked up at the hotel, or it was only a short walk to the meeting place. This was an easy trip, very relaxing, and everything went off without a hiccup. Thank you for an outstanding vacation trip, and a great way to see Canada!

“All details and connections were perfect. Rocky Mountaineer was great pampering, tours at Banff, Lake Louise, Ice Fields, and enroute to Jasper were fantastic. Three night train on the Canadian was a good experience, as was the business class ride from Toronto to Montreal. Nice hotels and tours in both cities. Great memories if a trip of a lifetime.

“The Canadian Pacific and the new commuter train between Montreal and Quebec City were terrific as well as the staff and food. The Ocean was disappointing. The hotels were amazing but for the Westin in Halifax. Tours went well.
