Utah Vacations

Marvel at the contrasts of free-flowing red sandstone landscapes and fresh blue skies, arid deserts, and verdant coniferous forests in Utah. There is little uniformity in the terrain of this naturally beautiful state, lending to a sense of excitement that is difficult to capture in other destinations. Utah vacations use this to their advantage and present travelers with myriad opportunities to get out and explore.

Select from escorted rail tours that feature multiple geographic locations or independent packages that home in on one specific city or region. Embark on a Utah family vacation to the Mighty 5 for a first-hand look at the sheer majesty of nature. This deserving nickname highlights the Utah national parks for what they are: mighty, incredible, and not easily forgotten. In Bryce Canyon National Park, twisting scarlet-red hoodoos give an otherworldly feel to the terrain. Soaring naturally formed archways and amazing rock formations are hallmarks of Arches National Park. Zion National Park's pink and red slot canyons and sheer sandstone cliffs are a breathtaking reminder of nature's prowess. Vast sandstone mesas, towering rocks that look as though they were sculpted by hand, and plunging canyons are hallmarks of Canyonlands National Park. The final of the Mighty 5, Capitol Reef National Park, is perhaps the least known, but what it lacks in instant recognition, it makes up for in astounding views. From white domes to stunning arches and the Waterpocket Fold, there is much to discover in this hidden gem. Visits to Utah's protected parklands can be combined with time in the history-filled capital, Salt Lake City, or in Moab, the gateway to wild parklands, for a well-rounded expedition in the state where adventure is as bountiful as the scenery.

Our customers love our Utah tours
Mt. Rushmore, the Badlands, & Yellowstone

“Booking the trip was easy and fast with Ryan's assistance. The trip itself was wonderfully organized, with Joan our Tour Director keeping us well informed throughout the trip. Hotels were great, food was delicious, and Dale our bus driver was wonderful. I'd do this tour again. The step-on guides for Yellowstone and the Black Hills added a lot of great information. The only change I would make would be to take a bedroom instead of a roomette if traveling with two people. The roomette was good during the day but extremely cozy at night.

“My wife and I had seen many of our national parks, but had never been to the northwest. We took a trip in September sponsored by Vacations By Rail to Glacier, Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, Canyonlands, and Arches. We met the remainder of our group (46 in all from various parts of the country) in Chicago along with Jennifer, our guide for the tour. The journey from Chicago to East Glacier, Montana, was long (30 hours), but smooth riding. Our hotel for the next 3 nights was the beautiful Lodge, a very imposing log building built by the Great Western RR in the late 1800s. The scenery was fantastic, especially on our Going to the Sun Road on the famous Red Jammers. We saw lots of game, but no bear or wolves. Our 2 night stay in Yellowstone was equally impressive, especially The Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. Lots of elk and bison along the way. The Grand Tetons were impressive. If we had to pick our favorite park at this point in the tour, we could not. Each was beautiful in its own way. The highlight of our Tetons portion of the trip was the rafting down the Snake River past the Teton Range. We spent 2 nights in Jackson at The Jackson Lodge, the nicest of our hotels in creature comforts. The highlight of Jackson was our evening at The Bar J Ranch for a chuckwagon dinner (those cowpokes sure do eat well) and country entertainment. A must do evening. I, unfortunately, became ill on our trip to Salt Lake City, and had to return home. I give kudos to Vacations By Rail in arranging such a fantastic trip. They employed a wonderful guide, Jennifer, who was so knowledgeable about every place we went. She and our very capable driver, Glenn, arranged rest stops that were not only spaced just right, but in places that were extremely interesting. One was at a bakery in the middle of nowhere that had the best cinnamon rolls. Another was at a picturesque chapel by the Snake River. Another was next to an elk horn bridge and a candy store. Thank you, Vacations By Rail, for a wonderful trip.
