About the tour

The power of Washington D.C., the excitement of New York City and the culture of Toronto collide on this thrilling North American rail adventure. We enjoy an enticing mixture of guided touring and independent exploration time in each location, as well as comfortable Amtrak train transportation between cities. The journey commences in Washington, D.C., the capital of the United States and a treasure trove of history, then continues to New York City. Amtrak takes us upstate to Buffalo, where we continue to Niagara Falls by coach. Cascading hundreds of thousands of gallons of water each second, the falls has certainly earned its natural wonder designation. You have time to experience the majesty of the falls and the charm of Niagara-by-the-Lake before our coach departs for Toronto. Known to be the cultural epicenter of Canada, this city has an abundance of offerings for visitors and locals alike and is the perfect conclusion for a tour that highlights the unique tapestry that is North America.

Itinerary

Day 1 - Washington D.C.

As you arrive in Washington, D.C., transfer to your centrally located hotel to meet your group and Tour Manager. The nation's capital is abuzz with activity, from Capitol Hill to the Washington Monument. At the center of it all is the National Mall, a national park that is home to some of the most significant museums, monuments and memorials in all of Washington. Upon check-in, you are free to begin your explorations at your own pace. Overnight Washington D.C.

Day 2 - Washington D.C. City Tour

We begin our explorations today with a guided sightseeing tour that highlights several of Washington's most impressive landmarks. Highlights include Capitol Hill, home to the distinctive Capitol Building; the Pentagon; the Washington Monument and its reflecting pool; and the Lincoln Memorial, which stands 19 feet tall and pays honor to the country's 16th president. Our tour also takes us to the White House, notable for its distinctive architecture and home to the President of the United States.

As the tour wraps up, you have the remainder of the day to revisit favorite destinations for a better look or to continue sightseeing independently. If you get hungry, D.C. is home to a delightful blend of restaurants, serving everything from high-end cuisine to comfort food. Overnight Washington D.C.

Day 3 - At Leisure in the Nation’s Capital

You have the day at leisure to enjoy the ambiance of the capital at your own pace. You may wish to visit one of the acclaimed museums, such as the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History or the National Air and Space Museum. The Holocaust Memorial Museum leaves a lasting impression on each and every visitor, and the National Gallery of Art offers astounding beauty in each of its exhibits. Other favorites of visitors include Arlington National Cemetery and the United States Botanical Garden. Of course, you could spend your time meandering through the streets of Georgetown, Capitol Hill or Dupont Circle neighborhoods, taking in the intricate historical architecture that is a hallmark of the city. Day 4 - Washington D.C. to New York by Train/New York City Sightseeing

We transfer to the train station this morning and board our Amtrak train to New York City. The journey takes approximately 3 hours to complete and connects two of America's most recognizable and iconic cities. As we arrive in the Big Apple, an eruption of sights, smells, sounds and cultures introduces us to the city. We further our introduction with a guided sightseeing tour that highlights destinations such as Fifth Avenue, which is famous for its high-end shops and regal buildings, and Central Park, an urban haven where nature overtakes the concrete jungle beyond the trees. We relax with some coffee and a fresh bagel before transferring to our hotel. Your evening is free to experience the best of the "city that never sleeps." Perhaps catch a Broadway show in the nearby Theater District or dip your toes into the exquisite culinary scene of the city. Overnight New York City.

Day 5 - At Leisure in New York City

Get a feel for New York City at your own pace today as you sightsee at leisure. The city is chock-full of amazing museums, such as the Guggenheim, the American Museum of Natural History and the Museum of Modern Art. The Empire State Building, rising 1,250 feet into the skyline, is a wonderful place to gaze upon the city from above. You may wish to take a boat ride to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island or to join the hustle and bustle of Times Square. Maybe seek out some of the iconic buildings within the city, such as the Flatiron building, with its unique shape, or the Art Deco Chrysler Building that dates back to 1930. If you wish to escape Manhattan, you could always venture out to Coney Island. Your options are truly endless. Overnight New York City.

Day 6 - Niagara Falls

Leaving the city behind, we travel by Amtrak's  Empire Service to Buffalo. From Buffalo, we transfer by coach to Niagara Falls, crossing the border into Canada en route. Our hotel, the Marriott on the Falls, overlooks the falls and gives us impeccable access to all the activities and amenities of this natural wonder. The rest of your day is free to witness the incredible power of the falls. Listen to the thundering cacophony as you gaze upon the rushing waters, either from land or aboard one of the tour boats. Day 7 - Niagara-on-the-Lake/Toronto Sightseeing

We begin our journey to Toronto today, pausing in the quaint town of Niagara-on-the-Lake. This destination is beloved for its charming tree-lined streets, 19th-century buildings and its welcoming atmosphere. There are intriguing shops to explore and a beautiful theater, the Shaw Festival Theater, which is home to a world-famous festival annually. Niagara-on-the-Lake is set in the heart of Ontario's wine country, so there are plenty of places to taste wine, as well. 

We continue to Toronto and on arrival, a guided tour welcomes us. Toronto is one of the most global cities in all of North America and embodies the idea of the melting pot. Our excursion presents a sampling of the city's most famous landmarks, including the enormous CN Tower and the Rogers Centre, home to the Toronto Blue Jay's baseball team (entrance to the stadium is not included). This evening, enjoy the diversity of the city through its cuisine. Toronto is brimming with award-winning eateries and a culinary scene that is forever growing and evolving. Overnight Toronto.

Day 8 - At Leisure in Toronto

Today is yours to experience the great city of Toronto at leisure. Perhaps ride to the top of the CN Tower to look out over the city of Toronto from 1,815 feet above the ground or visit the Royal Ontario Museum to learn about the history and culture of the province. Toronto's Zoo is a favorite of visitors, as is Casa Loma, with its Gothic architecture and immaculate gardens. The Distillery District is a great place to visit contemporary shops and restaurants, whereas the Kensington Market neighborhood is a hub for art. Overnight Toronto.

Day 9 - Tour Conclusion

Your tour of three of North America's great cities comes to a close as we transfer to Toronto's international airport for your return flight.

Could have had more meals included. DC tour did not happen had to buy hop on hop off no reimbursement
